The U.H. Mānoa History Department, Center for Pacific Islands Studies, and Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society are hosting a lecture by Dr. Carla Manfredi on reconstructing R.L. Stevenson's Pacific Islands photographs. Dr. Manfredi will introduce and discuss Stevenson's nearly 600 photographs from his time in the Pacific Islands, including a series on King Tembinok' of Apemama. She will also consider the methodological challenges posed by the photographs. The lecture will take place on October 5th from 12:30-2:00 pm in Sakamaki Hall A201 on the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa campus.

Stevensons Pacific Islands Photographs A History Forum Lecture By Dr. Carla Manfredi Visiting Post-Doctoral Scholar Department of History Monday, October 5th 12:302:00 p.m. Sakamaki Hall A201 History Department Library University of Hawaii at Mnoa Free and Open to the Public Dr. Manfredi, a recent graduate of Queens University in Canada, will introduce and discuss R. L. Stevensons extensive photography in the Pacific Islands, including the images housed in the archive at The Writers Museum in Edinburgh. Working with his wife and stepson during his final years, the famous author produced nearly 600 photographs, including a series depicting King Tembinok of Apemama. Dr. Manfredi will consider the images and also the methodological challenges that they pose.
