Volleyball sends six seniors to State Tournament

Jessie Cornell, Senior

For the first time since

2009, Lady Reds volleyball went to the State Tournament.
Throughout the season,
the team claimed several
victories, including being
named the Best of the West
tournament champions.

Going into playoffs,

they were ranked number
seven in 4A volleyball according to OSSAA.
The team traveled to
Daniel Webster for Regionals, and there they
were ranked number one
in their region. They first
defeated Berryhill 3-0. In

the Regional Championship, where they had been

defeated the previous four
years, they pulled out a
win against Tahlequah Sequoyah, 3-1.
It was amazing. The
feeling I got when the ball
hit the ground on the last
point is indescribable. I

loved getting to celebrate

with my team too! Winning Regionals is a memory I wont ever forget,
said Morgan Walker, sr.
Being one of three public schools advancing into
the state tournament, they
were number seven facing the number two team,

Christian Heritage Academy. They lost 1-3 to the

back-to-back 2014, 2015
4A State Champions.

They were the only public school to win a set in
the State Tournament.
This season we made
everything count, like
youre supposed to do as
a senior. We achieved our
goal of making it to the
State Tournament, and
thats been the goal since
freshman year - we did it!
It was a season to remember, said Kaylee Oyler, sr.
At the annual banquet,
Walker received Most Improved Player Award.

Oyler received Defensive Player of the Year

Award and Sha Harper received Offensive Player of
the Year.
Jessie Cornell received
the Shoemaker Award and
MVP.
It was an incredible
season, and I am extremely
proud of the young ladies I
coach at Clinton! The seniors this year have set a
great example on work ethic and sacrifice. I hope the
success this year continues
to fuel future Lady Reds
volleyball seasons! said
head coach, Jylian Pinnell.
