Reflection from prior lesson:
A lot of the students know what iPads are and how to use them in general so they were
quick to pick up on the buttons. By the end of them, each student was able to say and
color each button that was on the iPad. They are really eager to use the iPads so they are
working really hard to learn the rules so they can earn the right to use them.
Lesson Goal(s) / Standards:
K.CT.1.1 Describe technology using accurate terminology.

Lesson Objectives:
After the lesson, students will be able to successfully follow all 5 rules correctly.
After the lesson, students will be able to use all 3 buttons and the plug in correctly.

A. The Lesson
1. Introduction (3 minutes)

o As long as we remember all of the rules we are going to be able to use

them quicker.
o We are going to go over the rules and buttons that we worked on the last
few days before we are able to start using the iPads.
o After we go through the rules, we are going to be able to use them to show
the rules that we know.
2. Content Delivery (15 minuets)
o First we are going to go over the rules so that we know what we need to
do before, during and after we are done with the iPad.
o The very first rule that we are going to talk about is that you need to have
clean hands before even touching the iPad. You need to take the time to
wash your hands so that we dont get it dirty for the other students.
o The second rule that we need to follow is that once you get your iPad you
are supposed to carry it like this (hands crossed across the back of the iPad
and holding it against your chest) so that we are able to keep it safe while
we are walking across the classroom.
o The third rule that we need to follow is that once you get to your spot, you
need to stay seated while working on the iPad. Whether you are at your
desk or on the ground, keep the iPad where it is supposed to be.
o When you are working on the iPad, you should not hit, bang, or slam the
iPad on the ground or towards other students. If I see this, you will not be
able to work on the iPads.
o The final rule that we are going to go through as a group is that we need to
clear out of what we were working on in the day. I will go through this
with you a little more when it comes to the time when we are working on
the iPads.
o Now that we have gone through all of the rules we are going to practice
the rules we are going to practice them with the iPad.
o The first rule is that we need to wash our hands so lets all walk down and
wash our hands.

Now that our hands are clean, we are going to each come up and grab an
iPad. Remember how we are supposed to carry the iPad and lets practice it
on our way back to our seat. We are going to set it down nicely on our
desk when we get there and we will sit quietly.

o Now that we have our iPads at our desk, lets look at all of the buttons that
we worked on last time. We are first going to look at the home button. Can
everyone point to the home button? Can everyone press it once?
o We are now going to look at the volume buttons. Only Mrs. Meyer and I
will be able to press these buttons.
o The last button that we are going to look at is the lock button. This will
close out of anything that you are doing and you need to do this when Mrs.
Meyer or I need your attention.
o We are now going to unlock the iPads. We are going to do this by taking
our pointer finger and swiping it from left to right to unlock the iPad. Can
we all please do this now?
o Now that we have it unlocked we are going to find our app that we are
going to be using soon. After we have this open we are going to practice
using the home button. Can we all press the home button and get out of the
application? Does anyone have any questions about the home button?
o We are now going to lock the iPads and work on putting them on the
charger. Can everyone now press this lock button at the top of the iPad?
Once you have them locked please hold them how we are supposed to
walk with them and walk over to me and we can practice charging them
the correct way.
3. Closure (5 minuets)
o (Pull up the picture of the iPad)
o Today we talked about the rules and learned about the buttons and how
they are used.
o How many of you remember what this button is? (Home) This button?
(Lock) These buttons? (Volume) What about this spot down here? (plugin)
o You have learned so much and have worked so well that tomorrow we are
going to be able to play on an application.
