My Target
At the end of this activity, you will gain competence in managing time space and
resources to provide an environment in which is appropriate to the learners and
conducive to learning.

MyMap
To reach your target, do the following tasks:
Observe a class.
Using a checklist, find out the evident classroom
components.
Describe how the classroom is structured/designed to allow
everyone to participate in the learning activities.
Relate the data in your checklist to the learners behaviour.
Reflect on how classroom management affects learning.

My Tools
Use the activity form provided for you to document your observations.

An Observation Guide for the Learners Characteristics

Read the following statements carefully. Then write your observation report on the
provided space.
1. As you observe the class, look into the characteristics of the learners. Note their ages.
2. How many boys are there? How many girls?
3. Focus on their behaviour. Are they already able to manage their own behaviour?
4. Can the learners already work independently?
5. Describe their span of attention.
6. Look into their listening skills and ability to concentrate.

Name of the School Observed

MALINTA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

Observed
Location of the school St.Jude St., Malinta, Valenzuela City
Date of Visit Friday, January 29, 2016
1. At the start, the students are very careful and behave. But in a few minutes, they turn to become a
noisy inside the class. I think for their ages (14 to 16), they need an inspirable teacher that can
motivate them to explore Math subject and for even the discussions they already tackled.
2. There are only 13 boys and 21 girls inside the class.
3. The behaviour of students are not well implied for their learning. Teacher will managed and
facilitate their learning.
4. They are not working by themselves. They depend to their classmates for they are friends.
5. Student needs an attention of the teacher if they cant answer the questions.
6. The students should not focus to their lessons that have been discussed by teachers.

An Observation Guide for the CLASSROOM VISIT

Be guided by these questions as you do your observation of the classroom
management. It is also good to ask the teacher for additional information so you can
verify your observation. Write your notes below; and then organize your data in the
table that follows.
1. Are there areas in the classroom for specific purposes (storage of teaching
aids, books, students belongings, supplies, etc.)
2. Are there rules and procedures posted in the room?
3. Did the students participate in making the classroom rules?
4. What are the daily routines done by the teacher? (Prayer, attendance,
assignment of monitors, warm-up activities, etc.) How are they done?
5. Is there a seating arrangement? What is the basis of this arrangement?
6. Observe the noise level in the classroom. How is this managed?
7. If a learner is not following instructions or is off-task, what does the teacher
do?
8. What does the teacher do to reinforce positive behaviours? (behaviour
strategies)
Observation notes:
Yes, everything they used for the learning of the students.
None
Yes, if the teacher tells them to participate for the rules he presented. Attendance,
assignments monitoring and asking question about the student's learning or
assessing their learning. They are done by proceeding to the next topic.
There are no more seating arrangement teacher's did.
The classroom is not noisy if the teacher was there to guide them.
If the student should not follow, teachers will make a quiz to punish them.
The teacher will give them additional points to their quizzes.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT MATRIX

Aspect of Classroom
Management
1. Specific Areas in the
Classroom

Description

Effect on the Learners

(to be filled up after you
answer the analysis question)

They have a teacher's

table and board in front
of the class. At the back
of the right corner has a
cleaning materials. They
are also many desk
belong to the student.
There are two doors on
the left corner and four
windows on the right
corner.

Provide freedom to move

easily within the
classroom.

2. Classroom Rules
None
3. Classroom Procedures
4. Daily Routines

5. Seating Arrangement

6. Handling
misbehaviour/off-task
behaviour.
7. Reinforcement of
Positive Behaviour

Checking the cleanliness

of the room followed by
checking an attendance
and assess their learning
a few days and proceed
to the lesson.
Seating arrangements
are only for their desks
they have, and there are
no more seating
arrangement requires by
a teacher.
Teacher gives
disciplinary action
according to the mistake
of the students.

A good start for the

students for they will be
trained and discipline
themselves from daily
routines.

The teacher should

praise the student when
he answer questions.

For the reason, student

will do their best for the
praises given by the
teacher.

For the quietness of the

classroom.

The students will behave

and quiet to what teacher
disciplined to them.

MyAnalysis
1. How did the classroom organization and routines affect the learners behaviour?
They are being discipline to what they did. If they do the things everyday and then,
they will be a disciplined students by their teacher. Of course, by the needs of the
classroom to learning environment.

2. What should the teacher have in mind when she/he designs the classroom
organization and routines? What theories and principles should you have in mind?
The teacher can facilitate the behavior of the student. He want his students to be a
responsible by themselves. This is part of the learning of the students. When the
teacher posted things that can guide to the student, for example the topics of the
subjects. For the outline of the topics from beginning until to the end of the school
year. The principles they believe was that they can assess the student's learning.

3. Which behaviour strategies were effective in managing the behaviour of the

learners? In motivating students> Why were they effective?
In the class I observed, the teacher will use positive and negative reinforcement. For
positive reinforcement, teacher tells them that when they are passed the long quiz,
they will be give an additional points for their final exam. In negative reinforcement,
the teacher tells them that when they are not stop for noisy, they will be given long
quiz.

MyReflections
1. Improve yourself organizing your classroom in the future. In what grade/year level
do you see yourself? What routines and procedures would you consider for this
level? Why?
Grade 8 students. I would like to start my class with Prayer for guidance to our
learning, checking classroom and together attendance. And then checking
assignments for minitoring them and assess for what they learned a few days. And
then proceed to the next topic. Because I know this is a n effective to the classroom
relationship.

2. Make a list of the rules you are likely to implement in this level. Why would you
choose these rules?
Cleaning classroom before the discussion by assigning them, quiet for the discussion
and if I've given an authority to my student to speak with their opinions, they
would. Quiet groupings. Cleaning room before we go out. Because I know that these
things are needed to have in one family. The classroom they have is my home for one
school year and we need to make it clean everyday for we are only used it.

3. Should learners be involved in making the class rules? Why?

Yes, they also make some rules for their classroom. For dealing some things for their
learning. They also practice it for what they dealing for just like what teacher give
them instructions.
