Who was involved?


The nuclear arms race was central to the Cold
War.
The United States and the Soviet Union were in
an intense struggle for world domination.
Also included were Great Britain, France, and the
People's Republic of China.
Both America & Russia massively built their
stockpile of nuclear weapons.
Many feared where the Cold War was going with
the belief that the more nuclear weapons you
had, the more powerful you were.

What was going on?


In 1952, the United States tested a new and more
powerful weapon: the hydrogen bomb. The Soviet Union
followed with its own version in 1953.
Initially, only the United States possessed atomic
weapons, but in 1949 the Soviet Union exploded an
atomic bomb and the arms race began. Both countries
then continued building more and bigger bombs.
In the 1950's, The Arms Race became the focus of the
Cold War.

An arms race denotes a rapid increase in
the quantity or quality of instruments of
military power by rival states in
peacetime.
They had wanted to be able to defeat in
the war against the others at this time.

Outcomes
The outcomes to the arms race shows that the
weapons that they had when being at war at
this time. However the arms race had finished
with the treaty of the construction space
station.
The Nuclear build up lead within the nature of
the political and the social systems being
involved. Most states were produced with
about eight corporations.
By 1981, USA had 4,000 planes capable of
delivering a nuclear bomb. Russia had 5000.
