Missouri Valley Conference Mens
Swimming and Diving All-Centennial Team St. Louis - In 2006-07, the Missouri Valley Conference celebrates a century of excellence as the nations second-oldest NCAA Division I conference begins its second centennial as a leader in college athletics. As a part of the Centennial Celebration, The Valley is naming all-centennial teams for each of the Valleys sports. While the MVC no longer sponsors mens swimming, it did at one time and therefore has a rich history of competitive student-athletes that have earned a spot on the all-time mens swimming and diving team. Team composition for the sport of mens swimming and diving includes the following criteria: three or four-time all-conference athlete; specialty award honoree (swimmer/diver of the year) and all-conference athlete; remarkable performance at individual institution (record-breaking performance). In the leagues first 99 seasons, 32 members combined for 27 national championships, while 55 Valley student-athletes captured NCAA individual titles. In addition, Valley student-athletes and coaches earned 48 National Player or Coach of the Year honors in their respective sports. And the league had a myriad of student-athletes who collected All-America honors and earned national academic distinction in The Valleys first century. MENS SWIMMING & DIVING: The Valley sponsored mens swimming and diving from 1924-1941. From 1942-46, there were no meets due to World War II. In 1947 through 1968, competition was held. Action returned in 1994 with mens meets held yearly in Carbondale, on the campus of Southern Illinois University with the final mens sponsored event in 2001-02.
