OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
A) BOILER OPERATION

* In case of any ID/FD fan tripping corresponding FD/ID fan and top mill will trip on
auto.
* Following actions need to be taken by respective desk engineers:-
With the tripping of one running PA fan, the top most running mill will trip Further

Case II – APH trips due to any of the bearings of support/guide lube oil temperature

SA & P/A outlet temperatures.
Mill outlet temp. May reduce. Adjust mill loading accordingly.
* LT drives may trip due to under voltage drop down of LT contactors (Drop down
voltage 60-70%).
* LT drives that have tripped can be restarted.
* If the equipments are not starting. And if two or more coal feeders have tripped,
then following actions need to be ensured by respective Desk Engineers:-
7. Check out for cause of tripping of Bus-A. Charge Bus-A after getting
clearance from EMD.
8. Normalise all equipments after charging Bus-A & Unit load to be raised.

10. EARTHING POSITION OF FEEDER AND PRECAUTION DURING JOB MUST BE WRITTEN ON
PTW BEFORE ISSUEING ANY PTW
11. FOLLOW WORK INSTRUCTIONS WI-2 FOR ISSUING THE PTW.

13. IF PTW REQUEST FROM OUTER AGENCY (PGCIL) THEN ENDORSEMENT OF PTW BY SENIOR

OTHER STATION. CLOSE ALL ISOLATORS OF THE LINE AND CHECK THEIR ALIGNMENT.
5. CHARGE/SYNCHRONISE THE FEEDER OF THE LINE THROUGH MAIN BREAKER
(PREFERABLY) AND THEN CLOSE THE TIE BKR.
6. NOTE DOWN THE CHARGE/SYNCHRONISATION TIME AND INFORM TO NRLDC/CPCC/SCE

DISCONNECTOR NO. WL2D HAVE ALREADY BEEN OPENED AT HVDC END.
1.4 HVDC EXECUTIVE ALONG WITH NTPC SWITCHYARD SHIFT ENGINEER WILL GO
TO THE ISOLATOR LOCATION AND AFTER ENSURING THE DESINGNATION OF
ISOLATOR TO BE OPERATED, NTPC OPERATOR SHALL OPEN THE ISOLATOR NO
BB89A IN THE PRESENCE OF HVDC EXECUTIVE AND SWITCHYARD SHIFT
ENGINEER. AFTER OPENING THE ISOLATOR THE GROUNDING SWITCH NO BB89A
E1 TOWARDS HVDC SWITCHYARD SHALL BE CLOSED.
1.5 HVDC EXECUTIVE WILL RECEIVE THE PTW IN PERSON THROUGH NTPC
MAINTENANCE EXECUTIVE
2.2 THE HVDC EXECUTIVE HOLDING THE PERMIT WILL COME IN PERSON TO
SWITCHYARD CONTROL ROOM AND RETURN THE PTW.
2.3 HVDC EXECUTIVE ALONG WITH THE NTPC SHIFT ENGINEER/OPERATOR WILL GO
TO THE LOCATION OF THE ISOLATOR AND GROUNDING SWITCH. AFTER
ENSURING THE DESINGNATION NO OF ISOLATOR. NTPC OPERATOR SHALL FIRST
OPEN THE GROUNDING SWITCH NO BB89AE1 AND THEN CLOSE THE ISOLATOR
NO BB89A.
2.4 AFTER THE ABOVE OPERATIONS, NTPC ENGINEER SHALL SEND A MESSAGE
CONFIRMING THAT THE ISOLATOR NO BB89A HAS BEEN CLOSED AT THEIR END
AND THE CLEARANCE IS GIVEN FOR CONNECTING THE BUS NO. 1 OF NTPC TO US
NO A OF HVDC.
4.1 HVDC SHIFT ENGINEER WILL SEND A MESSAGE CONFIRMING THAT THE JOB HAS
BEEN COMPLETED.
4.1.1 THE HVDC EXECUTIVE HOLDING THE PERMIT WILL COME IN PERSONTO
SWITCHYARD CONTROL ROOM AND RETURN THE PTW.
4.4 AFTER THE ABOVE OPERATIONS NTPC ENGINEER SHALL SEND A MESSAGE
CONFIRMING THAT THE ISOLATOR NO BB89B HAS BEEN CLOSED AT THEIR END
AND CLEARANCE IS GIVEN FOR CONNECTING THE BUS NO 2 OF NTPC TO BUS NO
B OF HVDC.
4.5 HVDC SHIFT ENGINEER WILL CLOSE THE CORRESPONDING DISCONNECTOR WLID
AND THE BREAKER WLIQ AND CONFIRM THE SAME TO NTPC SWITCHYARD.

EXECUTIVE.
2.0 CLOSING OF ISOLATOR NO.BB89A TO RECONNECT THE BUS NO.1 OF NTPC WITH
BUS NO.A OF HVDC.
2.1 NTPC SHIFT ENGINEER SHALL SEND A MESSAGE THAT THE JOB IS COMPLETED
AND SHALL CONFIRM THAT THE GROUNDING SWITCH NO BB89AE1 IS OPENED.
2.2 THE NTPC EXECUTIVE HOLDING THE PERMIT SHALL COME TO HVDC CONTROL
ROOM AND RETURN THE PERMIT.
