Reading and Writing

Weve been practicing Daily 5 to help us become more independent readers. We learned 3 ways to read a book (words, pictures, or retell). We learned why we read to ourselves and we also learned how to pick good fit books! We will implement Phonics into our daily routine. We will add new words to our word wall and practice SAY, SPELL, SAYING them. Throughout September, we will read an anthology story titled, Lost and Found. We will learn about fantasy, sequence, and making predictions. This month in writing we will practice writing narratives and friendly letters and we will also identify sentences and fragments.

Math and Science

This month in math we will study numbers. We will discuss place value and practice placing numbers in order from least to greatest. September plus science equals the Scientific Method! This month we will learn the steps of the scientific method and we will plan and conduct experiments for practice. Later this month, we will begin a unit on weather and travel to Puerto Rico as part of Our Trip Around the World!
