Sharon Stannard, Newsletter Chairman

Alpha Delta State

November 21012 meeting, devoted to some of our past members, minutes and programs, may enrich our current chapter, and provide some traditions that we would like to reinstate. Secondly, what do we want for our future? What do we envision for our chapter in the next few years? The goal that is foremost on my mind is to encourage more member participation in meetings and committees. Please take a look at our program booklet. Is there a talent or passion you have about one of the purposes of Delta Kappa Gamma? Is there a committee that meets your area of expertise? Do you have ideas you could share for advancing our mission? Please share! Our chapter is a treasure-trove of talent. Let us use it generously! Jackie

Presidents Ponder
Welcome to the new biennium. It is my hope that Alpha Sigma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma will continue to provide the services and initiatives that were so generously developed over the past years. It has been our good fortune to be blessed with a dynamic and dedicated president the last four years. Thank you, Pam, for your leadership in Alpha Sigma Chapter. You have set the bar high! This year Alpha Delta State will celebrate its seventy-fifth anniversary. The theme for the celebration and the new biennium is Honoring Our Past Building Our Future. With this theme in mind, I began to consider a few chapter goals for the next two years. One such goal is to honor our past as a chapter. Many new members may not be aware of the history of our chapter. A program, or a short segment each

WOMEN IN THE MILITARY

Fifteen percent of the troops overseas are women. Often they are far from military stores that sell needed feminine products like lotions, hair ties, tampons, etc. Enter Operation Care and Comfort (occ.usa.org) which ships special care packages directly to unit females. Help by sending your extras to O.C.C., 2392 Walden Sq., San Jose, CA 95124. What better way to say thank you to sisters who have chosen to defend us and our country.

A SPECIAL INVITATION
The Alpha Delta Kappa teachers sorority in Fostoria has extended to us an opportunity to meet childrens author Sally Snyder. She will be at the childrens library at Kaubisch Memorial Library on Monday, November 19, at 6:30 p.m. Kaubisch is located at 205 Perry Street. It is easy to find. From Countyline Street you will turn east on Fremont Street. At that corner is the Mann-Hare-Hoening Funeral Home. If you want to make it a night out, have a great meal at KemoSabes. Follow Route 12 and it is on the east end of town.

ALZHEIMERS
A single word that strikes more fear than other diseases. The minute we forget our best friends phone number or where we put our keys or worse yet our cars location at the mall. There are a lot of reasons we forget things but to relieve your anxiety talk to your doctor. A lot of fixable problems can cause memory lapses (I call them senior moments) including: Bonnie Oberlander, Marsha Erbland, and Rebecca Osborne, newly re red DKG members were recognized and presented gi sattheOctobermee ngoftheChapterbyDianeHite. COMPLETE THIS LIST

Count your Blessings 1. We live in a free country. 2. We can worship freely. 3. We can vote. 4. We do not live where gunfire, bombs, mortars occur daily. 5. As women, we have the right to an education, pursue careers, etc. 6. And I am personally thankful for . . . Have each person at your thanksgiving celebration share at least one thing they are most thankful.

Dont let a lack of knowledge or fear govern your life. Talk to your doctor. In the meantime, eat whole grains, eat fatty fish like salmon or mackerel, blueberries, the spice turmeric, and our favorite words: daily exercise and 7-8 hours of good sleep nightly.

MEMBERSHIP
Only we can grow our membership. You should be thinking of new candidates. They can be active or retired educators. Nondace Campbell has the forms and they must be turned in at the February meeting.
