True to Alstoms stringent approach to release validated products to the market, this upgrade is tested at Alstoms full-scale Power Plant in Birr, Switzerland. It has also benefited from on-site validation at one of Alstom customers KA26 sites in Spain.

KA26 Reference (CCPP) Plants
Based on its proven Plant IntegratorTM approach, Alstom has designed and engineered two KA26 Reference (CCPP) Plant products: (1) 1-on-1 single-shAfT ConfigurATion (KA26-1)
integrating one Alstom GT26 gas turbine unit firing an Alstom HRSG and directly coupled to an Alstom TOPGAS Generator, which in-turn is coupled to an Alstom Steam Turbine and utilising the Alstom ALSPA Plant Control System, and (2) 2-on-1 mulTi-shAfT ConfigurATion (KA26-2) integrating two Alstom GT26 gas turbine units, each firing an Alstom HRSG and driving an Alstom TOPAIR Generator, separate Alstom Steam Turbine unit driving a TOPGAS Generator, and utilising the Alstom ALSPA Plant Control System.

The latest upgrade of the GT26 gas turbine
The latest upgrade of the GT26 gas turbine is the fourth evolutionary development stage since the products initial introduction in the mid 1990s. This latest upgrade is based on an extensive validation program and has focused on further developing the following core sections of the gas turbine: (1) Compressor higher bAse-loAd & pArT-loAd performAnCe The Compressor upgrade results in an increased compressor inlet mass-flow at high compressor efficiency over a wide range of ambient and load ranges. The compressor blade airfoil design is according to the latest state-of-the-art design principles using Controlled Diffusion Airfoils (CDA). To increase the part-load performance even further, the variable vane row count has been increased from three to four. (2) second combustor loWer emissions The Second Combustor architecture and structural parts remain unchanged. Modifications include a re-designed SEV burner, modified lance and fuel injection as well as improved seals to reduce leakages. The modifications ensure a better mixing of the fuel with the airflow resulting in lower emission values over a wide operation and fuel range. The combustion system is able to operate with a wider LHV range and higher content of high hydrocarbons. (3) lp-Turbine inCreAsed performAnCe The benefits of the modified LP Turbine are (i) higher component efficiency and (ii) the ability to support flexible operation at increased inspection intervals. To achieve this all four LP Turbine stages contain redesigned airfoils with optimised profiles and enhanced cooling schemes. The shroud design has been improved to reduce the over-tip leakages.
