IUGC Library and Information Resource Centre Introduction The Library and Information Resource Centre (LIRC) is the central part of Iqra University Gulshan Campus (IUGC), which has been established to support the intellectual needs of University members. However, outsiders are also allowed by the permission of authorities. IUGC Library and Information Resource Centre is of academic nature; i.e., University Library, which provides a wide range of print and electronic resources to its users. It has currently 10,000 print books and 50,000 electronic books with subscription of 16 print journals and access to 10,000 electronic journals and 6 most citied databases. The LIRC has an oracle based automated database to record bibliographic data with facility to search library holdings; while construction of an OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) is in progress. Resources Books, theses, reports, journals, magazines, bulletins, reference works and non-print materials are included in the holdings of IUGC LIRC. All resources are available in an open-access environment with instructions to shelf-guide. CCTV cameras and RFID security gates are installed for the security of library collection. Books: IUGC Library and Information Resources Centre is consists of 10,000 high quality informational, educational and recreational books and has a separate reference section for ready reference materials such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, yearbooks etc. All books, except reference material, can be circulated to all registered members. The automated catalogue, which lists all items available in the library, can be searched by author, title, subject, or publisher of the book / report. There is also a keyword search option. The catalogue can be viewed at the librarians desk. Research Work (Theses): The Research work section contains about 500 standard research papers (theses) by students of IUGC on various topics of PhD, M.Phil, M. Ed and MBA. Journals: There are 16 print and 10,000 e-journals in subscription of IUGC Library and Information Centre from all over the world on business, economics, education and management. Reports: The library stocks various statistical, annual and research reports as well as directories, catalogues from local and international associations. Newspapers: The Library subscribes to five newspapers titles and maintains an archive of newspapers published in the last three months. Newsletters: Newsletters, brochures and prospectuses received by the library are displayed in the magazines shelf. The library is on the mailing list of several international institutions with memberships of some leading databases. Page 3 of 13

Electronic Resources: IUGC Library and Information Resource Centre provides access to a wide range of e-resources such as Ebrary, McGraw Hill Collection, Project MUSE, University of Chicago Press, INFORMS, DUKE University Press, Springer Link, Taylor and Francis Journals, World Bank e-Library, Wiley Blackwell Journals, Emerald Insigne, EBSCOHOST, available at http://www.iqra.edu.pk/iuk/?page_id=273 Services and Facilities Reading Room: IUGC Library and Information Resource Centre has an extensive reading area with seating arrangements for over 120 users for purposes of intellectual activities. However, the library may not be used for group study, loud discussion etc. Archive Area: Library has an archive section to keep record of 6 months old newspapers; this facility is for research students to provide reference on time. Current Awareness Service: Library and Information Resource Centre is providing Email based Current Awareness Service to IUGC faculty members and students to share new arrivals information, library updates and important news about database and websites. This service has been appreciated by many library members. Photocopy Service: Photocopying facility is available in the Library. However, a whole book/journal is not allowed to be photocopied, as per copyright rules. Inquiries and Advisory Service: Professional staff is available to facilitate all aspects of library use. They will respond to general and specific queries on research topics and related subjects. They will also provide help to users in literature search from resources available in print and other media. Orientation Programs: One to one or group orientation programs are conducted to familiarize library members with the library services, procedures and resources. The students are of the effective use library resources (print and online). Inter-Library Loan Service: This service is extended to a member if a required book or material is not available in this library. Books can be borrowed through inter-library loan from affiliated libraries. Outreach Activities: IUGC Library and Information Resource Centre is offering a Library Volunteer Program to provide free hands-on training about Library Management Skills to fresh students. IUGC library also actively coordinates with national and international libraries to share their resources and services. Membership Process There are two major categories of library members: 1. Registered members 2. External members Teaching staff, researchers and students are counted as Registered Members. Once registered, they are allowed to use services and facilities of the library. They can also borrow library resources as per their checkout limits. All regular members will be given a library membership card that is compulsory for all library transactions. In order to obtain library clearance, a member has to surrender their membership card. Visitors, students, researchers and teaching staff other than IUGC members are categorized as External Members. They are allowed to browse library resources for reference purposes only. No issuance of resources is allowed unless a library or librarian involved during interlibrary loan of books etc. Subject Classification and Shelf Arrangement All books on the shelves are classified according to the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) Scheme, and arranged alphabetically by subject from A to Z using the OCLC Cutter Scheme. Library staff provides guidance in using catalogue and retrieving material from shelves. Rules and Regulations All library members must abide by the library regulations. Silence must be strictly observed in the library. Discussion/group study or making library a meeting place is strictly prohibited. Mobile phone should be switched off or kept on silent mode. Drinks & other edible items are prohibited in the library. Leave your personal belongings such as bags, parcels, coats & etc. at the provided storage facility at the entrance of the library. The library will not be held responsible for the loss of any personal belongings of users. Library telephone facility is for the library staff only. Do not shelf books. Drop the books in the collection carts. All registered members will be given a library membership card. Membership Card must be used when borrowing and returning books. The membership card is not transferable and must be surrendered to the Librarian at the end of the programmes and get a clearance. In case of card lost, the new card will be issued against the payment of Rs. 50.00 Books are available for circulation to all regular library members for a specified period. Library books must be returned on or before the due date or if recalled by the librarian. A Fine of Rs. 10.00 per day will be charged for an overdue book and after Recall Rs. 50.00 per day Books may be renewed once only provided if they are not required or reserved by other user. No book will be issue during examination. However, photocopy is allowed,. Any member who lost or damages the library material will pay the current cost of replacing the item plus 10% administrative charges or replaced the same title with applicable fine. Do not write, underline or mark any book. Library books are carefully examined on return and the borrower will be held responsible for the damage. Readers bear all the responsibility of the borrowed items and cannot borrow books on behalf of other library users.

Theses, DVDs, Reference books, Journals and Reports are for use within the library only and cannot be borrowed. A student can review only one thesis at a time against his/her I.D. Card. Whole book/journal is not allowed to be photocopied, as per copyright rules. The librarian reserves the rights to suspend the membership if the rules of library are breached.
