Discover the matchless beauty of the Danube, and the pride of the Czech Republic, Prague
Sheer cliffs rise above the mighty river, with tiny Baroque villages nestling at their feet. Terraced hillsides are topped with regal castles and time-mellowed monasteries. Orchards and vineyards along the Danube have supported farmers for centuries; these days ambitious vintners apply the latest techniques to making luscious white wines from ancient vines. As you cruise through the heart of the old Habsburg empire, youll find beautiful libraries, astonishing frescoes, Medieval city walls, and Gothic cathedrals, encountering the perfect mix of big-city glamour and small-town ease, high culture and the simple pleasures of daily life. At each end of the journey are historic capitals: Vienna, home to emperors for a thousand years and a treasure house of imperial art, and Prague, the beautifully preserved City of Spires that boasts a unique architectural heritage of its own. Get a feel for the land as you wheel a bicycle along a riverside path. Listen to a trumpeter mark the arrival of noon after a 600-year-old clock chimes the hours. Feel the wind in your hair while you ride through the Bavarian Forest in a horse-drawn carriage. Tradition and history, music and art, micro-brews and hip barsexperience them all along the beautiful Danube. At the same time, savor the flavors of the region, from Viennas pastries to the apricot-scented wines of the Wachau Valley. Who will enjoy this cruise: Food and wine connoisseurs and those who love music, art, nature, and history will all find something splendid along the Danube.
