Woka 3700 WC-CrC-Ni[Cr] Series 1/4 DSMTS-0059.3 2014 Sulzer Metco Tungsten Carbide Chromium Carbide Nickel Thermal Spray Powder Products: WOKA 3701, WOKA 3702-1, WOKA 3703, WOKA 3707, WOKA 3718 Quick Facts Classication Carbide, tungsten-based Chemistry WC Cr3C2 Ni[Cr] Manufacture Agglomerated and sintered Morphology Spheroidal Apparent Density 3.8 4.9 g/cm 3 Flowability Free-owing Service Temperature < 700 C (1290 F) Purpose Corrosive / oxidative wear resistance Process HVOF or APS 1 Introduction WOKA 3700 series materials are agglomerated and sin- tered powders for thermal spray, containing 73% tungsten carbide and 20% chromium carbide as hard phase mate- rials in a nickel matrix that functions as a binder for the carbide particles. The particle shape is mainly spheroidal. WOKA 3702-1 is a newly engineered material that has improved deposition efciency and can be sprayed at higher application rates compared to standard WOKA 3700 series materials. WOKA 3702-1 has a tightly con- trolled chemical composition and a lower apparent den- sity. It consists of 72% tungsten carbide and 18% chro- mium carbide as hard phases in a nickel-chromium matrix that functions as a binder. Coatings of WOKA 3702-1 exhibit oxidation, corrosion and erosion resistance com- parable to the standard WOKA 3700 series materials. These materials are applied using the HVOF or plasma spray process whenever resistance to wear and corro- sion in hydrous solutions is required; e.g., in the paper industry. Coatings of these materials are thermally stable up to 700 C (1290 F). The ner grades produce very tough and dense coatings that can often be used in the as sprayed condition without further nishing. HVOF coatings of these materials are dense and show good bonding strength. 1.1 Typical Uses and Applications: Recommended for applications requiring dense, smooth coatings with excellent oxidation and corrosion resis- tance at service temperatures up to 700 C (1290 F), such as: Pins for Oil and Gas Mud pump rotors Paper rollers Pump rotors Pump seals Pump bearings Slush pump piston rods Defector rolls Dump valves Forging tools Oil feld equipment Compressor shafts SEM Photomicrographs showing the morphology (top) and the microstructure (bottom) of WOKA 3703 powder. See Section 2.4 for recommendations. WOKA 3702-1 is a tightly controlled material designed for high deposition efciency and application rate while keeping chemical and physical properties simi- lar to standard WOKA 3700 series materials. It is the material of choice when targets for coating economics must be met. Desired as-sprayed surface roughness. For the smoothest possible surface, choose a product with the lowest particle size distribution appropriate for the spray process and spray gun to be used. In addition, ner particle size fractions lead to ner as-sprayed surfaces. If better corrosion resistance in HCl solutions is required, use a tungsten carbide material with a cobalt-chromium matrix such as WOKA 365x series products, (see datasheet DSMTS-0025) or WOKA 360x series products (see datasheet DSMTS-0051). If higher service temperature is required or better cor- rosion resistance in NaOH solutions, choose a chro- mium carbide with a nickel-chromium matrix such as WOKA 71xx, WOKA 72xx or WOKA 73xx series prod- ucts (see datasheets DSMTS-0027, DSMTS-0031 and DSMTS-0058, respectively). 2.4 Recommended Spray Guns Product Diamond Jet WokaJet / WokaStar / JP5000 K2 Jet Kote Top Gun / HV2000 Atmospheric Plasma WOKA 3701 WOKA 3702-1 WOKA 3703 WOKA 3707 WOKA 3718 Sulzer Metco www.sulzer.com info@sulzermetco.com Sulzer Metco (US) Inc. 1101 Prospect Avenue Westbury NY 11590 USA Tel. +1 516 334 1300 Fax +1 516 338 2414 Sulzer Metco (Japan) Ltd. 4-2 Hikawadai 3-Chome, Nerima-ku, Tokyo 179-0084 Japan Tel. +81 359 203 302 Fax +81 359 203 512 Sulzer Metco Europe GmbH Spreestrasse 2 65451 Kelsterbach Germany Tel. +49 6142 6033 0 Fax +49 6142 6033 400 Sulzer Metco AG (Switzerland) Rigackerstrasse 16 5610 Wohlen Switzerland Tel. +41 56 618 81 81 Fax +41 56 618 81 01 Sulzer Metco (Singapore) Pte.
