Program Description: Students enrolled in the Construction Technology courses throughout their high school career learn and understand basic concepts in construction technology. They perform basic tasks related to construction as required for entry-level employment opportunities with career awareness activities enhance the students ability to seek opportunities and obtain entry-level employment. Coursework places a heavy emphasis on safety awareness, work habits on the job, ergonomics, identification and proper use of hand and power tools, identification and proper use of stationary/portable construction equipment.
Each student will be evaluated using the course via Competency Profile form which will identify the skills they have learned in this class. At the students IEP meeting, parents will receive a copy of this form where specific ESLRs are identified with each learned skill.

Building Content Outcomes:
The student will:
Recognize keywords for specific tools, materials and skills needed in construction. Read, check and calculate measurement using various measuring tools and formulas. Build walls through assembling, fastening and applying finishing touches with drywalls. Demonstrate knowledge on appropriate steps, tools and materials needed to complete painting, plumbing, masonry and concrete projects. Identify different electrical wires and safely create projects with electrical skills. Describe the need for safety awareness and identify safety procedures when working with Building Content Skills Identify careers and job requirements in residential building construction Create quality work sample presentations and oral presentations

Health and Safety Practices
Protective clothing (shop aprons) and safety glasses are provided for students use when working with chemicals and equipment. Students will understand and demonstrate proper health and safety guidelines for the shops machines. Students will operate and use equipment in the shop safely and efficiently and discuss ways of dealing with health and safety concerns. Students will know the location of the Materials Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and be instructed as to how to use them so that proper treatment may be applied in the event of an emergency. It is important that students be aware that CSD/CTE/Construction Technology Shop is not responsible for any damage to students clothes. Please bring work clothes to leave in shop to use if needed.
