    What Do I Know? What Do I Need to Know?
    - The 15 October 2013 (8: 12 am event
    occurrence time) BOHOL Earthquake
    possessed a magnitude of 7.2
    - Focal depth: 12 km

    the boundary of the municipalities of
    Sagbauan and Catigbian in Bohol
    - Generated by the North Bohol Fault (NBF)
    3900 aftershocks were recorded (100
    were reported felt, as of 09-30-2013)

    Liquefaction, Landslides, Sinkholes were
    associated with the earthquake
    - Death and destruction of property was
    witnessed throughout Bohol, post-
    earthquake reaching 200 deaths (600,
    000 affected families) and 2 Billion Pesos

    The rationale behind the quake: There is an unknown, unnamed fault which is
    found on the northern part of Bohol. The reason for the faults condition for being unnamed
    earlier is because there was no manifestation of the fault on the surface. Although,
    PHIVOLCS was already aware of the faults existence and caused some minor earthquakes,
    they did not expect an earthquake with a magnitude this massive. They assured that the
    fault will no longer trigger a powerful earthquake in the near future. Since the fault
    generated a very strong 7.2 magnitude earthquake, it will take centuries for the fault to
    move and generate the same power.
    The exegesis of the destruction: The historical infrastructures among Bohol were
    defaced due to their antiquity, which over time has proven the structures frail and
    frangible. The proximity of the structures to the epicenter was also a factor in the
    destruction of the edifices (nearer to epi-center = more damage).
    The state of the environment: Over the course of time, through landslides, turmoil,
    environmental imbalance, and geological alteration of the mainland, Bohol has grew and
    mended its milieu to verdure once more. Landslides in some of Bohols iconic Chocolate
    Hills, for instance, have exposed what the locals jokingly describe as white chocolates
    actually high-grade limestone after the swaying grasses that normally cover the mounds
    got scraped off. This has revealed crucial information regarding the history of Bohol, having
    revealed fossils from the newly-exposed land. Tours have returned to normalcy and piece
    by piece, Bohol is reclaiming its economy.
