Retrieval of Data from the Electrical Power Control Unit (EPCU)
1. General A. The maintenance procedure that follows is for the retrieval of data from the Electrical Power Control Unit (EPCU). The EPCU is installed in the flight compartment, below the left DC circuit breaker panel. B. The primary function of the EPCU is to control the DC power distribution of the Electrical Power Generation Distribution System (EPGDS). To distribute the DC power, the EPCU must be able to control the operation of the various contactors throughout the system. Contactor control is determined by a number of manual and automatic functions during the operation of the aircraft. Automatic functions are incorporated for the two reasons: 1. To reduce the pilot work load and increase the system efficiency. 2. To activate the protective functions (e.g. over voltage protection for the external DC power) that can not tolerate the time delay present in a human interface. C. In the AC system, the EPCU only captures and records the faults. It has no controlling function. 2. Job SetUp Information Subtask 243111946017 A. Procedure Subtask 243111742001 A. Do the retrieval of data from the EPCU as follows: (1) On the EPCU, push the FAULT REVIEW pushbutton. Make sure that the display shows 88. (2) Push the FAULT REVIEW pushbutton again or wait three seconds. (a) If a fault has occurred, the display will show a twodigit fault code. NOTE: The display shows codes 01 through 37 for faults that are recorded. If you do not push the FAULT REVIEW pushbutton within 10 seconds, the display will turn off. NOTE: After every flight the memory of the EPCU is not erased automatically, therefore, the fault codes that are displayed for the first time may be related to the old fault. By clearing the memory and again verifying the fault codes, the EPCU will display the fault codes related to the current fault. 1. Each push of the FAULT REVIEW pushbutton will show the next recorded fault code. 2. When the display shows 99 there are no more fault codes. NOTE: While the display shows 99, if you push the FAULT REVIEW pushbutton, the display will show the fault codes again. (b) If no fault codes are stored, the display will turn off within 10 seconds. The EPCU Fault code 37 is detected instantly. FIM 243111810809 NOTE: 1. Under certain failure modes (generator offline but not tripped off e.g. intermittent relay status line or failed relay, bus failure), the fault code 25 may be present when the #1 AC generator is producing a voltage (load is 0.0), but the buses are powered by the cross side AC generator. The reason is the voltage and the phase being different at two different times between the two measured points. This can be verified by selecting the #2 AC generator OFF and checking that the #1 AC generator powers the cross side but not its own side. 2.
