motor with a brass worm
gear drives two nylon gears
which change speeds at regular intervals. Running
without the nylon gears, the motor and worm gear
maintain a constant speed, so the speed changes are
probably a result of the cogs on the smaller gear having varying pitches or angles which slow the whole
assembly. The larger, black gear, slows, almost to a
stop twice per revolution at voltages under 12Vdc.
The black gear is 1.95" diameter and has a nib that
provides back and forth reciprocating action. Also on
the assembly is an optical switch which can monitor
the rotation of the larger gear. Overall dimensions of
assembly, 5.4" x 2.8" x 2". Weight: 3/4-pound
