Introduction
KOVOSVIT MAS, a.s. is one of the largest producers of machine tools in the Czech Republic. It currently employs more
than 750 employees; its turnover achieves units of billions of crowns.
KOVOSVIT MAS, a.s. in its hydro energy production section deals with development, production, and delivery of
technological units in the area of screw pumps. The invention of a screw pump comes already from the ancient era, when
this technology was used for overcoming water transport elevation in the form of the Archimedes screw. To date, this
technology is considered peerless in the area of transport of large water volumes up to a fixed height.
Using modern methods including computer modelling, prototype testing on a modern test stand, and long-term
experience of our experts, we are capable of the design, production, and turnkey delivery of the optimum solution for all
types of applications, whether it is the transport of clean or strongly polluted (aggressive) waters. Typical pumped
media are sewage and waste water, sludge, water for irrigation systems, rainwater, paper mill operations (pulp
mills), and similar.
KOVOSVIT MAS, a.s. wants to approach the specific requirements of its customers as much as possible, hence it combines
outputs from the latest calculating programs with long-term experience in utilising screw pumps in the real environment.
We constantly transfer up-to-date results of our own research and development into our product range. Thus, we are
able to prepare a precise design of the pump with emphasis on operation efficiency according to any specific situation.
Principle of a Screw Pump

The basis of a screw pump is the central pipe, on which spiral segments are welded, carrying the pumped medium
upwards via rotation. Thanks to high transport capacity, robust and simple design, and extreme service life, a screw pump
is usable in a wide range of applications. Screw pumps are utilised especially in transport of industrial water and water
with solid contents, such as rocks, sand, cans, glass, and other materials, which the screw pump is capable of transporting
without being damaged. For these reasons, screw pumps are also used for transport of loose materials, especially in
agriculture.

Lower Bearing Technology:

Thanks to our rich experience in engineering and precise machining, KOVOSVIT MAS, a.s. offers several possibilities of
lower bearing design for its screw pumps. In principle, there is an option of a system with lower bearing lubrication with
oil or Vaseline and a bearing system with permanent oil fill without the necessity of installing a lubrication unit.

Pump Drive
The pump drive is secured using an electromotor with increased efficiency (IE3), which is connected directly to the pump
shaft via couplings and a high efficiency gearbox. A part of the drive unit is also a brake preventing counter rotation. The
deliveries of all components are secured from proven suppliers with global presence. Thanks to that, KOVOSVIT MAS, a.s.
is capable of offering superior services in case of servicing interventions.
Components Used:
Depending on the specific locations requirements, we use high quality components from renowned partners for the production
of our screw pumps.
Material Construction
As standard, our screws are made using highest quality pipes of
material with designation 11375.1. For the production of segments,
materials S235JR and S355MC are used. Surface finish is provided with
two-component epoxy paint as standard.
For transport of media with high contents of sands and abrasive
materials, KOVOSVIT MAS, a.s. secures surface protection with highly
durable materials.
We provide special material designs for the

following applications:

Transport of water with high contents of sands
Highly polluted water
Water of extremely high or low pH
Supplied Variants:
Steel trough for Casting into Concrete
This variant excels with its resistance to wear with an option of additional protection and special anticorrosive treatment.
Its design allows for very precise delimiting of the rotor and trough clearance. Possibility of special anticorrosive
treatment. The trough is ready for casting into concrete.
Concrete trough
The concrete trough is made directly at the installation site, possibly it is delivered in the form of prefabricates. The body
of the concrete trough is shaped precisely according to the body of the specific screw at the installation site. A part of the
screw delivery is also formed in this case by a spray rail, which is fitted after completing the trough concreting.
Compact Variant
The pump is supplied as a compact unit with a self-supporting trough. It consists of the screw body, the steel trough, the
lower and upper bearings, the gearbox, and the drive. In this case, no installation of a concrete trough is needed. Hence,
construction works are less demanding and the installation time is shortened. The unit drive is encased watertight.
Refurbishment
Based on the requirements of our customers, we perform refurbishment of pumping stations with the goal of repairing
and renovating the machinery, optimising operating losses, and decreasing the operating and maintenance demands. We
put emphasis especially on achieving optimum pumped quantity according to the customers requirement, furthermore
on precise delimiting of the clearance between the rotor and the trough, decreasing the losses in mechanical parts, and
possible improvement of the control and regulation system.
