Presidents Corner
Dear Iota Sisters,
I hope you have had a wonderful summer. I am very excited about the year ahead. Your
executive board met in May to plan out the dates and activities for our six meetings. Martha Rhoton
and Belinda Castille have lined up programs for the year to inform, entertain, and educate us. I hope you
will plan to attend each and every one of our meetings. You will miss a treat if you are absent.
We had a wonderful time of fellowship, learning, and renewal at XI State in June. Representing
Iota this year were Joy Branham, Sue Fischer, Val Manley, and yours truly. Our chapter display and
basket for the silent auction were lovely and well received. The Order of the Rose ceremony was
beautiful and we were so proud when our own Sue Fischer was presented this distinguished award. I
hope more of you will make plans to go with us next year.
Our first meeting will be on September 10, at 5:30pm at Eastman Recreation Park of Bays
Mountain, shelter #20. Please bring a covered dish, filled with something delicious to share and
items to place in gift bags for new teachers in our local schools. Please consider including small
personal items a new teacher might enjoy. This would be an excellent time to invite nonmember women
educators to attend the meeting to get to know us and also learn about the wonderful opportunities
membership in DKG affords. In case of rain, we will have our fun get together at Litz Manor Church.
Hostess group #5 will in charge of coordinating the desserts and decorations if desired. Please contact
your hostess group chairperson to let her know if you will be able to attend the meeting or not. Hostess
chairpersons, please email me with the names of the persons planning to attend the meeting at
joannsmi@yahoo.com
Membership dues are $75.00 again this year. You may pay at the first meeting or mail your
dues to Sue Fischer 234 DeLee Drive, Kingsport, TN 37663. Our prompt payment of dues prevents Sue
from having problems reporting to the state and national DKG.
Enjoy the rest of your summer and I hope to see you on September 10.
Fondly,
JoAnn Smith, President

Because we have been coming up a
little short on money to pay for
meals, the price will go up from
$11.00 to $12.00 this year.
Remember that there is a donation
basket at Lindas sign-in table to
contribute to Litz Manor Baptist
Church for the privilege of holding
our meetings there. We are aiming to
have enough to give them $100.00
for the year.
We are hoping to include pictures of
all members in our Yearbook. Send
us a picture! Otherwise, we will try
to snap you at a meeting!
Martha Rhoton and Belinda Castille
will share the task of photographing
activities at our meetings. And
remember, if you have some great
snaps that you have taken, please
send them to Joy Branham for
inclusion in the Archives and to
Brenda Moriarty for the website.
It is imperative that you let your
Hostess Group Chair know whether
or not you are coming to a meeting!
We have to pay for a certain number
of meals, and there may not be any
extra!
Joan Holt reminds us that the
Appalachian Fair is August 24th
-29th. We need volunteers to man the
DKG Imagination Library booth
from 3:00 to 9:00 each night and all
day on Saturday. Please sign up for a
few hours. Otherwise the whole load
falls on Joan and a few others.
Without volunteers we cant make
this work.
Remember that this is the second
year of the biennium. We will need
