Unit Grading Criteria
P6 – draw and label a plant and animal cell, using a light microscope,
annotating with functions of the components.
M6 – Make drawings of plant and animal cells, seen with a light microscope,
relating the structures to their functions.
U1 D6 - Make drawings of plant and animal cells, seen with a light microscope,
comparing structures and relating to the differing functions of plant and
animal cells.
Learner signature
Task 1: Draw an onion skin cell and produce some notes on the functions of its
components
On plain paper produce a neat diagram of an onion skin cell. You must produce the drawing
and label it using a sharp HB pencil. Do not shade or colour the diagram
On separate paper produce notes on the functions of the following plant cell components
• Nucleus
• Cytoplasm
• Cell membrane
• Cell wall
• Vacuole
• Chloroplasts
You could also include a more colourful drawing of a plant cell in this section
Task 2: Draw a human cheek cell and produce some notes on the functions of its
components

Task 3: Draw and label a range of specialist plant and animal cells
On plain paper produce a series of neat diagrams of a range of specialist cells. Again,
diagrams must be produced using a sharp HB pencil. Do not shade or colour the diagram.
You will need to annotate the diagrams to show how the structure of the cell or its
components are suited to the function of the cell
