About the department
The Department of Science and Humanities was established in the year
2007. The department is the back bone of the entire engineering education.
It supports efficiently the engineering departments by providing quality training
in basic sciences. The main subjects Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and
English take shelter under the wide umbrella of the Department of Science &
Humanities.

Prof. Dr. P. Gopalakrishnan (Physics), who has 44 years of rich experience in

academic and research field. The Department holds, senior teaching staff
comprising Professors and Associate Professors along with talented young
brigade of Assistant Professors in all branches. The faculty is always inclined
towards supporting students in their all round development. The department
engages regular tutorials to give the student better and comprehensive
understanding of the subjects.

Extra Curricular activities are given due

importance and a constant effort is made towards improving students

performance.
Objectives of the department:
To achieve a minimum 55% pass in the individual subjects
To keep all the classrooms and laboratories clean and tidy
To conduct one Faculty Development Programme for an academic year
To conduct at least one Guest lecture in an academic year for each
subject
Beyond Academic:
The department has mainly focus towards the benefit of students. It
begins spark to development of a student through various extra-curricular and
co-curricular activities. The department motivate the students to participate and
organizes various events like seminars, workshops, symposium and technical
session, which enable the students to equip themselves with the latest trends in
the industry. The department also conducts foundation courses which help them
to develop their various skills like personality, communication, leadership
quality, interpersonal relationship, etc.

The main objective of conducting laboratory in physics is to make the student to
analyze the physics principle involved in the device and also to allow the
student to relate the principle to new applications. It creates an opportunity for
the students to understand the fundamental concepts of engineering and

CHEMISTRY LABORATORY:
The main objective of the department is to develop the necessary theoretical and
practical aspects required for understanding intricacies of the subject and also
give adequate exposure to the applied chemistry aspects in different disciplines
of engineering. Our faculty educates the engineering students with all necessary
concepts related to chemistry and develops a scientific attitude by means of
distinguishing, analyzing and solving various engineering problems. We are
training the students to develop their experimental skills and important practical
knowledge in engineering by providing sophisticated chemistry laboratory.
The department also handles environmental science for the young engineers.
The department not only concentrates on classroom learning of chemistry but
also gives importance to the practical skills.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS LABORATORY

The college has a digital language lab for teaching and learning language in a
computer classroom. The lab has 60 systems designed to function in a LAN
environment. It has power back up and access to internet. The lab uses a variety

of multimedia software to train the students in various nuances of

communication skills.
The Hi-Class is designed to train the students of first year in various aspects of
language skills such as listening, speaking, reading and writing, necessary for
the contemporary work place.
The Clarity English Success is designed for the III year students of engineering.
Here students are trained in higher order skills such as coherence in speech and
writing, participating in debates, interview skills. By the end of the course the
students acquire the necessary fluency to participate in various socio-cultural
and professional contexts
