    Cusum Control Chart Step 1

    Cumulative Control Chart Generator

    A cumulative sum (CUSUM) chart plots the cumulative


    sums of the deviations of each sample value from the target
    value. The CUSUM control chart is good at detecting small
    shifts away from the target with only minimal data.

    Introduction

    The following progam is a macro generated Excel 2000 spreadsheet that prompts the user for
    data and then generateas a cusum control chart.

    Definition

    A Cumulative Sum (Cusum) Control Chart graphs the cumulative sum of the sample mean minus
    the process mean or target value. The Cusum is very effective for detecting small shifts in a process
    with rather small amounts of data.

    How to Generate Cusum Chart

    From the first screen (Step 1) click on the "Start" button to take you to the User Input
    screen. On the User Input screen (Step 2) enter the process mean and the number of standard
    deviations you want your control limits to be. For example enter "3" for control limits of 3-sigma.
    Click the "Next" button to proceed to the Data Entry Screen (Step 3). On the the Data Entry screen
    (Step 3) press "Clear" to erase old data and then enter the averages of the samples or if the sample
    size is one enter the sample value. Note the Cusum Generator can take up to 200 data entries.
    When done click "Finished" to view your cusum control chart. To print your cusum control chart click
    the "Print Chart" button.
