reports across organizations' systems and software engineering data to allow you to
easily build documents for:

Ad hoc use
Team or personal offline review
Formal reviews
Contractual obligations
Regulatory oversight
Standards compliance

Rational Publishing Engine V2.1.2 extends its feature set with the capability to
generate documents from Atlassian JIRA using JSON data. Other improvements
include the capability to search for elements or attributes in a schema by entering
text in the search field of the Data Source view, the capability to zoom in and out of
your template in the template editor, and a simpler way to configure data sources in
the document specification.

The Rational Publishing Engine Document Builder web UI has a number of

improvements to aid everyday users, report designers, and administrators.

Overview

Delivering high-quality documentation or project specifications can be the primary

outcome for many organizations. Rational Publishing Engine is the document-
generation tool these organizations depend on to meet their delivery needs.

Rational Publishing Engine automates document generation for a variety of

applications to help improve efficiency and process maturity. It:

Reduces the effort to meet internal, customer, or regulatory requirements for

deliverable documentation
Automates document creation for many purposes, which include ad hoc use,
formal reviews, contractual obligations, and standards compliance

New in Rational Publishing Engine V2.1.2

This release brings improved web functionality, designed to enhance the user
experience for project teams and document controllers. These enhancements
include:

Everyday users:
When entering tags, auto-complete displays matching tags so that users no
longer need to provide the full tag name. Users can also reuse existing tag
names.
Report visibility and access control has been introduced to the assets in
Document Builder. Users can assign ownership of assets to other users, and
make assets public or private.
Report designers: Users can tag connections, group connections by tags, and
search for connections by tag. Users can also group schedules by tag.
Administrators:
In previous releases, when Document Builder was configured to use Jazz
TM

Team Server (JTS) authentication, the administrator had the manual task
of marking JTS users as Rational Publishing Engine administrators or report
designers. In version 2.1.2, the roles can be mapped automatically, eliminating
the need for administrators to manually add users as administrators or report
designers. Administrators can change the mapping for the default roles, add
new roles, or delete roles.
Administrative variables are now categorized into groups, to provide an easy
way to look into a particular group. Administrators can expand and collapse the
groups to see the default values of the variables.

Other Rational Publishing Engine enhancements include the capability to:

Zoom in and out of a template in the template editor

Generate documents from Atlassian JIRA using JSON data
Search for an element or attributes in a schema by entering text in the search
field of the Data Source view
Configure data sources in the document specification in a simpler way than in
previous versions by using the Configure REST Data Source window
Generate comparison documents, for example two versions of an artifact in IBM
Rational DOORS Next Generation
(R)

Note: When Collaborative Lifecycle Management applications are enabled with

SSO (single sign-on) authentication by using Jazz Security Architecture, document
generation from the Launcher and Document Builder continues to work. However,
the authentication method must be set to Basic when configuring the data source
for the Collaborative Lifecycle Management applications in Launcher or in Document
Builder.

Key prerequisites

Supports Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Authorized User

Authorized User is a unit of measure by which the Program can be licensed. An

Authorized User is a unique person who is given access to the Program. The Program
may be installed on any number of computers or servers and each Authorized User
may have simultaneous access to any number of instances of the Program at one
time. Licensee must obtain separate, dedicated entitlements for each Authorized
User given access to the Program in any manner directly or indirectly (for example:
via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means. An
entitlement for an Authorized User is unique to that Authorized User and may not
be shared, nor may it be reassigned other than for the permanent transfer of the
Authorized User entitlement to another person.

Note: Some programs may be licensed where devices are considered users. In that
case the following applies: Any computing device that requests the execution of
or receives for execution a set of commands, procedures, or applications from the
Program or that is otherwise managed by the Program is considered a separate User
of the Program and requires an entitlement as if that device were a person.

Floating User

Floating User is a unit of measure by which the Program can be licensed. A Floating
User is a person who is accessing the Program at any particular point in time.
An Install is an installed copy of the Program on a physical or virtual disk made
available to be executed on a computer. The Program may be installed on any
number of computers or servers, but if the Floating User simultaneously accesses
more than one Install of the Program, the Floating User requires a separate
entitlement for each such Install. Licensee must obtain separate entitlements for

manner directly or indirectly (for example: via a multiplexing program, device, or

Note: Some programs may be licensed where devices are considered users. In that
case the following applies: Any computing device that requests the execution of
or receives for execution a set of commands, procedures, or applications from the

Statement of good security practices

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through intrusion

prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside
your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed,
or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without
a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered
completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely
effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed
to be part of a regulatory compliant, comprehensive security approach, which
will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other
systems, products, or services to be most effective.

Important: IBM does not warrant that any systems, products, or services are
immune from, or will make your enterprise immune from, the malicious or illegal
conduct of any party.
