Paris.

Seventeen years experience in organizing and operating UN activities, including several in co-
operation with UNEP in the East Asian Seas region where I have first-hand experience of the
programme. I designed and obtained funding for the UNDP-UNESCO Marine Pollution Monitoring
Project (Indonesia, INS-001-85)with a eight-year time span and a budget of approximately
US$1,500.000. The project installed a complete marine pollution monitoring laboratory (organics)
with P30-LIPI in Indonesia and trained Indonesian scientists from three provincial universities , as
well as institutions in Jakarta, in the use of GC, GC/MS and HPLC techniques to evaluate organic
pollution from a management perspective.

Managed UNESCO-IOC portion of GEF project-action on marine management. and coastal systems
evaluation in the region of the Black Sea.
Projects in Equador and Mozambique also undertaken in addition to work in Southeast Asia and the
Pacific.

Head of Marine Coastal Management Programme for the Intergovernmental Oceanographic

Commission of UNESCO unit for Coastal Management involving both policy and programme
definition.
