IDEOLOGY OF PAKISTAN

Ideology:

Ideology refers to the science of ideas that is manner of thinking. The ideas which are formed

on the basis of economic, social and political theory or system is called Ideology. We can also

say that the ideals a nation strive to accomplish in order to bring stability to its nationhood.

Ideology of Pakistan:

The main and basic element that build the force for the establishment of Pakistan was Islam.

According to it, Muslims should have a separate where they can live according to the faith and

principles of Islam without any restrictions and force. They should be free to follow their

religion and enhance Islamic culture and civilization.

According to Quaid Pakistan was created the day the first Indian entered the field of Islam.

Thus the ideology of Pakistan created on the basis of Islam.

Elements of Ideology of Pakistan:

Muslims demanded a separate homeland because their religion, faith, and their beliefs were

conflicted with the religion and beliefs of Hindus. They needed a land where they could live

independently to practice their own religion. Thus the ideology of Pakistan was based on few

of the elements/principles.

1. Islam

2. Two Nation Theory

3. Territorial Land

4. Democratic System

5. Urdu Language
Islam:

Islam as stated earlier was the main force behind the building of this new nation. It was Islam

that bought unity among the Muslims and bought them all on a single platform Muslim

League. Although there were other factors as well like political, economic and social bt Islam

was the dominant factor. Due to Islam Muslims struggled hard and worked for their self-

determination and establishment.

Two Nation Theory:

Two nation theory came into being as a result of the struggle between Hindus - Muslims

difference of culture and beliefs. This difference led to the revolution and the concept of two

nation theory. On one occasion Quaid -e- Azam stated:

The Muslims demand Pakistan where they can rule in accordance with their own system of

life, their cultural development, their traditions and Islamic laws.

On the same premises Quaid dismissed the wishes of the Hindu and the British colonialists for

a joint Hindu Muslim nationhood as a pipe dream. He worked hard and with full devotion he

fought to get a separate identity for Muslims. It is this very ideology which is the second

important ingredient of ideology of Pakistan

Territorial Land:

Besides Islam and Two Nation Theory, the third most important element that formed the basis

of ideology of Pakistan was land. In order to live freely and for the establishment and

flourishing of Islam, Muslims needed a piece of land. A land where they follow their paths and

beliefs without any interruptions and restrictions.

As Quaid stated once,

Nothing would be achieved simply by raising slogans for nation. We are one nation and the

nation cannot survive in the air, it requires an independent land to settle where it can rule

and our demand is the same.

Democratic System:

Mutual consensus and Islamic democracy, is also an important factor. These are important in

the decisions regarding the social, economic, political and cultural affairs. According to the

religion of Islam all the affairs and decision of the state were handled by Hazrat Muhammad

(P.B.U.H), after being discussed with the Sahabas (companion). The system of Shariat was the

only system of government.

Urdu Language:

Urdu is also credited as an important factor. Although it is not the fundamental characteristic

of a nation but is a distinguishable character. A language defines a separate identity of a nation.

The history revealed to us that Urdu was the language of Muslims while Hindi was the language

of the Hindus. Thus the language is an important part of the culture and tradition of a nation.

So it was supposed to be saved and established.

It was the Hindi-Urdu controversy that made Sir Syed to put forward his Two Nation

Theory, predicting that the difference between the two groups would increase with the passage

of time and the two communities would not join together in anything wholeheartedly. Maulvi

Abdul Haque stated:

Urdu is the first brick in the foundation of Pakistan.

Conclusion:

The fundamental concept of the ideology of Pakistan is that Muslims are an independent free

nation that has his own separate beliefs and faith, that follows the religion of Islam and consider

Allah as the only sovereign.
