Associated Learning Standard(s): The resource may be generally applicable, if so, simply state that. List any ISTE-S standards that
seem to naturally align with the selected resource.

This resource is generally applicable.

ISTE Standards for Students:

1. Empowered Learner - Students leverage technology to take an active role in choosing, achieving and demonstrating
competency in their learning goals, informed by the learning sciences.

2. Digital Citizen - Students recognize the rights, responsibilities and opportunities of living, learning and working in an
interconnected digital world, and they act and model in ways that are safe, legal and ethical.

4. Innovative Designer - Students use a variety of technologies within a design process to identify and solve problems by
creating new, useful or imaginative solutions

6. Creative Communicator - Students communicate clearly and express themselves creatively for a variety of purposes
using the platforms, tools, styles, formats and digital media appropriate to their goals.

RESOURCE DESCRIPTION
Give a brief description of the technology/resource.

Symbaloo is an online website that allows students to create a visual organizer in the form of tiles that includes links to websites,
visuals, videos, audio recording, news feeds, sources, and so much more! Students are able to save their tiles to use as a bookmark
tool, and share with any students/the instructor.

INTEGRATION IDEA - PORTFOLIOS

How might you use this resource in a lesson plan to promote student-centered learning?

Symbaloo can be used in many ways to enhance a lesson by both the instructor and the student. An instructor can share
bookmarks with students that cover all lecture material for a lesson, include links for instructions, display examples, and so much
more! Students can use Symbaloo to display their learning in a particular unit; creating a Symbaloo works cited, assignment that
utilizes multiple web sources, or create a portfolio using the tiles to link to their work over a unit or semester.

VALUE-ADDED EXPLANATION
Based on the value-added rating scale above, how would you rate the technology integration you described, using the
selected resource?
Explain your rating based on the rubric indicators.

I would give Symbaloo a two on the value-added rating scale, because it changes the way students can display their
work in a meaningful way. While Symbaloo does not transform a lesson, I think it can be a very creative (and
cost/environmentally friendly) way to have students develop a portfolio. This is much easier to manage in a classroom
as it does not take up space, and can be updated at any time, in any location by the students. Students can also easily
view the portfolio of their peers, and the teacher can send Symbaloo portfolio to parents to show participation,
learning, and areas of growth or improvement.
