Installation
Installation must be carried out by an authorized Chloromatic Dealer for effective
operation and to prevent the warranty from being void.
Two self-tapping screws and wall plugs have been provided for fast and simple
installation. Use a 7mm masonry drill bit when fitting power supply to a brick or concrete
wall. When mounting to a post drill pilot holes and fit screws provided. Once screws are
in position, simply hang Chlorinator via bracket on back of unit.
Important:
The Cell must be installed so that the water flows through the Cell Housing via the Cell
head, and in accordance with the arrow on the cell housing. This is to ensure correct
operation of the flow sensor.
Note:
The cell must be fitted to allow for easy removal and cleaning and positioning after all
accessories such as heater but before it divides if there is more than one return line to
the pool.
Flow:
If there is a problem with water flow or gas is detected in the cell housing, the flow
indicator will be on. When this occurs the pump or pipes should be inspected for damage
and the flow sensor connection checked.
System Control:
The system control varies the amount of time the cell operates during the filtration cycle.
The system control will not vary the electrical current supplied to the cell.
As an example, if one filtration cycle is set at 8 hours, and the system control is set at
50%, then the total amount of time the cell will operate during the 8-hour cycle will be 4
hours.
When the system control is set to MIN, the cell will be off for the duration of the filtration
cycle.
When the system control is set to MAX, the cell will be on for the duration of the
filtration cycle.
The system control is graduated in steps of 10% from MIN (off) to MAX (on).
If the cell is off and you wish to check its position, simply turn the system control to MAX
and the cell will turn on. Once checked, adjust the system control back to the desired
position and after a few minutes the cell will turn off again.
TTo turn the cell off, simply turn the system control to MIN. This will be convenient for
back-washing.
Low salt indicator:
Your Chloromatic Chlorinator is fitted with a number of protective systems including a
low salt indicator (operation LED's). As the salt level in the pool decreases, the wear on
the cell increases. When the salt level in the pool decreases towards the minimum,
operation LED 2 will turn red. At this point the salt level must be increased. Consult your
BioGuard Pool and Spa Care Centre.
Note: Low salt levels will destroy the coating on the Anode mesh and will void
all warranties. Please ensure that you maintain the salt levels at 5000 ppm.
The Chloromatic Chlorinator has a built-in warning system to minimize any damage
resulting from insufficient salt levels. However, the ultimate responsibility is on the
owner to ensure adequate salt levels are maintained all year round.
When the cell draws electric current from the power source, the amount of current
drawn is dependent upon a number of factors. Two of these factors are Salt content and
Water temperature.
The low salt indicator on your Chloromatic Chlorinator is designed to operate at summer
water temperatures. When the pool begins to cool, the cooler the water conditions cause
the cell to behave differently - it will draw less electrical current. This can cause the low
salt indicator to assume that the salt level has fallen even if the level has remained
relatively constant.
(Refer to Operating Unit During Winter section of operating instructions.)
1. Polarity Indicator on Output Display: The +- symbol appears before the cell
output display to indicate which polarity the system is in, i.e. positive or negative. This
symbol will alternate and is factory pre-set.
2. System Control: When adjusting the system control the ESC system's cell output
display flashes the control setting for a few seconds, then resumes displaying cell output,
i.e. the percentage of time that the cell operates during the filtration cycle.
3. Cleaning of cell: The ESC system uses a patented Electronic Self-Cleaning system to
clean your cell and therefore you should not have to manually clean your ESC cell,
unless extreme water conditions prevail. Cleaning will be necessary in the event of
high calcium levels, increased pool water temperature.
Winter Operation
When the temperature of the pool water drops below 18°C, the Winter Mode Switch
should be placed in the ON position. The Winter Mode Indicator will then be ON. This has
two effects:
Note: It is essential that the wall or post to which the Unit is installed be sprayed (NOT
the UNIT itself) with a good surface type insect repellent periodically since penetration
by insects may cause damage which is not covered by your warranty.
The back of the Unit has been designed as a heat sink. It is normal for this area to
become very hot.
Safety Device:
Hydrogen Gas is a by-product of the chlorine production process. A Gas Sensor has been
incorporated into the Unit and Cell, which will switch the chlorinator off if gas is detected
in the cell Housing or there is no water flow. Always ensure that all cables from the
Power Pack to the cell are properly connected, otherwise the unit will not switch ON.
The Chloromatic Chlorinator is also fitted with a Thermal Cut-Out to prevent overheating.
If the temperature rises too high, the power is automatically disconnected. The Unit will
resume operation when it cools down.
Calcium (scale) is deposited on the outer and inner mesh as electrolysis takes place. This
build-up will interfere with the flow of electrical current in the Cell and thus lowers
sanitiser production. It is essential to inspect the Cell regularly and clean when
necessary. The rate at which deposits will form on the mesh differs with each pool and
can be influenced by the following:
Life of the electrolytic cells vary substantially from one installation to another due to
variations in operating time, water quality and composition, systems and cell
maintenance. Please ensure that when cell replacement is necessary you use the correct
genuine Chloromatic replacement cell to match your system.
Please Note:
Even Self Cleaning units (ESC) may need to be cleaned manually. Use BioGuard SALT
CELL CLEANER fo this. Cleaning will be necessary in the event of high calcium levels,
increased water temperature or poor maintenance habits by the pool owner.

Warranty
Warranty Information:
Chloromatic Chlorinators carry a one year warranty on the Power Supply and Cell.
During the warranty period, when an authorized technician is requested to service your
unit outside company premises, a call-out fee will be charged. This fee will not apply if
the unit is returned to the BioGuard Pool and Spa Care Centre for repairs. If an
authorized technician is required to service your unit and it is found that such services
are not covered by warranty, labour charges will apply.
Please fill in details on warranty card provided and return within 14 days of purchase to
register. Refer to your Chloromatic Warranty Registration Card for more information.
Warranty Details:
