Part 3 : Solve following examples
1. A motor drives a rotational load through a reduction gear of teeth ratio 0.1 and efficiency 90
2
%. Load has moment of inertia of 10 kg-m and torque of 50 N-m. The motor has inertia of
2
0.4 kg-m and speed of 1400 rpm. Find equivalent inertia of motor and load as referred to
motor side and power developed by motor.
2
ANS: 0.5 kg-m , 814.448 W
2. A motor running at speed N rpm is driving a rotational load L1 directly coupled to its shaft and
another load L2 through a gear to reduce its speed by a factor K. The inertia of motor and
loads L1, L2, are Jm,, J1 and J2 respectively. The load torque of L1 and L2 are T1 and T2.
Find expression for effective inertia and torque on the motor.
3. A motor drives two loads. One has rotational motion. It is coupled to the motor through a
reduction gear with a=0.1 and efficiency of 90%. The load has a moment of inertia of 10 Kg-m2
and a torque of 10 N-m. Other load has translation motion and consists of 1000 Kg weight to be
lifted up at a uniform speed of 1.5 m/s. Coupling between this load and motor has an efficiency
of 85%. Motor has inertia of 0.2 Kg-m2 and runs at a constant speed of 1420 rpm. Determine
equivalent inertia referred to the motor shaft and power developed by the motor.
