2010-2011 Syllabus 7-1B
In this level one language class, students are challenged to begin to develop their abilities
to communicate about themselves, their interests, families and daily routines. Students
are expected to use basic linguistic structures with a degree of accuracy. This can be
demonstrated in daily speaking, reading, writing and listening activities.
1. Be respectful.
2. Be prepared, positive, and ready to learn
3. Do nothing that interferes with teaching or learning.
Students will also be taking a midterm and final exam for this class. The grades are used
to calculate the semester grade, which is part of the student’s George Mason High School

Homework Policy
Homework is generally due at the beginning of the next class day. More time is given for
longer assignments. If a student is absent (excused) on the due date, the completed
assignment is expected upon return to class. Late work is accepted for reduced credit.
There are team-wide cutoff dates during each quarter for late work. Generally late work
from the beginning of the quarter will not be accepted after midterm and late work from
the second half of the quarter will only be accepted before the end of that grading period.
Testing Policy
If a student is absent (excused) on a quiz/test day the student will take the quiz/test upon
return to class. This may be during class, if time allows, or after school by appointment.
Unlike sixth grade, students may not retake a quiz or test because of a low score.
Materials
Students need to bring their workbook, binder, assignments, paper, pen/pencil to class
daily. The workbook contains writing and listening activities used on a daily basis.
