i. Construct programs for EDM machining process using ISO codes and using CADCAM
software.
ii. Demonstrate ability to work in team to complete assigned tasks during practical work
sessions.
2.0 THEORY
CADCAM involves the use of the digital computer to accomplish certain functions in design
and production. CAD is concerned with the use of the computer to support the design
engineering function and CAM is concerned with the use of the computer to support
manufacturing engineering activities. The combination of CAD and CAM in term CADCAM
is symbolic of efforts to integrate the design and manufacturing functions in a film into a
continuum of activities, rather than to treat them as two separate activities.
4.1 Make sure the student follow the laboratory or workshop safety regulators.
4.2 Experiment must be conduct by lecturers or experience lab assistance.
5.0 PROCEDURES
i. Redraw the given drawings (refer to figure 1 till figure 6) with Autodesk AutoCAD or
MasterCAM software.
ii. Make sure the unit is set in mm and the file is save in the directory.
iii. Use the line command and draw the project file as per the given dimensions.
iv. Annotate the drawing file and save your drawing in MasterCAM format.

6.0 DISCUSSION
6.1 Discuss the important components of CADCAM in manufacturing industries.
CAD (computer-aided design) models have changed the way the manufacturing
industry designs and manufactures parts. There’s no doubt that since CAD
technology, there has been a huge turning point for the better. Before CAD,
designers used paper, pencils, rulers, compasses, and other tools to go about
their drafting. It was cumbersome, time consuming, and a nuisance at times
especially when there were changes being made to the design

6.3 Does CADCAM is the best package for machining part? Why?
According to the latest analysis of the CAM software market produced by CIMdata,
Inc., Mastercam from CNC Software Inc. with more than 135,000 installations, is more
than twice as popular as its nearest competitor. Master cam is a Windows based CAD/CAM
package for 2-axis through 5-axis milling and turning, 2-axis and 4-axis wire EDM, 2D
and 3D design, surface and solid modeling, and 2D and 3D routing. The CAD functions
are more advanced than what is needed to do simple editing of part files for use with the
CAM function. Some users say that it is more than they need and that the CAD function is
more design oriented than machinistoriented. This made the package harder for them to
learn than other packages with only simple editing functions. Other users say that the
extended design-oriented functionality of the CAD package gives them the ability to create
complex designs without having to buy a stand-alone CAD package.
6.4 List FIVE (5) the advantages or benefits of using a CADCAM system?
Improve the quality of the design : With the CAD software the designing
professionals are offered large number of tools that help in carrying out
thorough engineering analysis of the proposed design.
Better communications: The next important part after designing is making the
drawings. With CAD software better and standardized drawings can be made
easily. The CAD software helps in better documentation of the design, fewer
drawing errors, and greater legibility.
Creating documentation of the designing: Creating the documentation of
designing is one of the most important parts of designing and this can be made
very conveniently by the CAD software. The documentation of designing
includes geometries and dimensions of the product, its subassemblies and its
components, material specifications for the components, bill of materials for
the components.
Creating the database for manufacturing: When the creating the data for the
documentation of the designing most of the data for manufacturing is also
created like products and component drawings, material required for the
components, their dimensions, and shape.
