How To Break 80 Checklist

To Break 80 we must do four things:

1. Get all of our tee shots in play

2. Get six approach shots on the green

3. Get up and down 50 percent of the time

4. Have no 3-putts

To Break 80 we must get all of our tee shots in play to ensure clear shots to the green.
This will allow for better odds at hitting at least six greens in regulation.

Those greens we miss, we must get the ball up and down 50 percent of the time. Given our
six greens in regulation and up and downs on six of the 12 greens we missed, as long as
we have no 3-putts, we will have 12 pars and six bogeys for a total of a six over par 78!

Shot no. 1 – tee shot in play

Shot no. 2 – 33% greens in regulation
Shot no. 3 – 50% up and down percentage
Shot no. 4 – two putts or one putt

The Formula

Par on 12 of the 18 holes and bogey on six other holes for a total of 78 strokes.

Our total score is just six over par!

Breaking 80 Summary
To Break 80 we know that we need to get all of our tee shots in play, six approach shots
on the green, and our short game shots on the green and close enough to have a chance at
an up and down. If we can do this and avoid 3-putts, we can be certain to Break 80 every
time out.
To track your results as you play, add four categories to your scorecard:

1. Driving (number of drives leaving a clear shot to the green)

2. Approach Shots (number of shots leaving a putt)

3. Short Game (number of up and down attempts and completions)

4. Putting (number of 3-putts)
