Introduction To CIM
Introduction:-
Computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM) is the manufacturing approach of using computers to
control the entire production process. This integration allows individual processes to exchange
information with each other and initiate actions. CIM combines various technologies like
computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) to provide an error-free
manufacturing process that reduces manual labor and automates repetitive tasks. The CIM
approach increases the speed of the manufacturing process and uses real-time sensors and closed-
loop control processes to automate the manufacturing process. It is widely used in the automotive,
aviation, space and ship-building industries.
Objective:-
The objective of this lab to know about Computer Integrated manufacturing and its advantages
and disadvantages.
Benefits of CIM:-
Improved customer service
Improved quality
Shorter time to market to make with new products
Shorter flow time
Shorter vendor lead time
Reduced inventory levels
Improved schedule performance
Greater flexibility and response
Improved competitiveness
Lower total cost
Shorter customer lead time
Increase in manufacturing productivity
Decrease in work in process inventory
Manufacturing method:-
A method of manufacturing there are three components that distinguish CIM from other
manufacturing methodologies.
1. Means for Data storage ,retrieval, manipulation and presentation
2. Mechanism for sensing state and modifying processes
3. Algorithms for uniting the Data process component with sensor/modification component

Conclusion:-
Computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM) is the manufacturing approach of using computers to
control the entire production process. This integration allows individual processes to exchange
information with each other and initiate actions. Although manufacturing can be faster and less
error-prone by the integration of computers, the main advantage is the ability to create automated
manufacturing processes.
