As a result, the people in the community, as well as the officials, ensure that they will keep the
cleanliness and orderliness in their place especially on their beaches and other coastal areas. They are
also expected to implement the policies and suggested work discussed during the workshop so that
the project will not come to a halt after the week-long project.
6. Project Description
A. Rationale
Puerto Galera is home to one of the best beaches in the Philippines. It greets tourists that
ranges from locals to the international public because of its beauty and its calming sensation that it
brings. Because of this, attractions like the White Beach, Tamaraw Beach, and the likes, mostly
contributes to the profit of the said place. This is possible because of the different businesses raised
alongside the beaches and the day-to-night activities that are usually conducted like diving,
snorkeling, and fire dances. From time to time, the place offers a venue for musical shows which

are attended by many. The said shows invite known artists in the Philippines or simply just artists
in locality.
However, being one of the most popular tourist destinations is no easy task to manage.
Having many benefits also have its own drawbacks. The number one problem Puerto Galera
beaches are facing nowadays is the fact that pollution exists and the problem of maintaining
cleanliness without sacrificing profit due to forced temporary closures for rehabilitation just like
what happened in Boracay. Even with the environmental fee and rules regarding the proper actions
of tourists as well as the locals, the problem still persists. Trash are just dumped improperly and
the result is obvious even for first-time visitors.
That is why a need for workshops, seminars, and coastal cleanups in the said place is
urgent. These activities will tackle the bad situation arising from the beaches and the possible and
comprehensive policies that will be a must for the protection of the vicinity. This will not only
reduce the trash of the place but this will also reduce the pollutants present in bodies of land and
water. Then the disruption of the primary habitats of fishes like corals will be reduced and toxic
derivatives that comes from solid pollutants that is proved harmful for marina life will be
eliminated.
This project will also add to the basic knowledge of people about the process of land and
water pollution and how it affects the environment. The main goal is to protect and preserve the
place and the main targets of this program are the people of Puerto Galera themselves. This will
then be passed to their tourists and visitors.
B. Objectives
The objectives of the program shall be as follows:
1. To provide an outreach program that will increase awareness of the problems caused by
garbage left on the beach.
2. To protect and preserve the beauty of the beaches of Puerto Galera by participating in
coastal cleanup drives.
3. To establish an effective management in saving marine life in the area and to achieve healthy
marine ecosystem and marine biodiversity.
4. To collaborate with the residents and business owners in developing and implementing
conservation strategies and policies for the protection of Puerto Galera beaches.
C. Expected Output
1. The improvement of sensitive beach(s) and the attainment of a “trash-free” area(s).
2. Involvement of local communities in all levels to the clearing operation and to the assertion
and implementation of new policies.
3. Capacity to sustain the policies and clean-up drive activities of the beaches in a longer run.
4. Recognizing the co-assistance of DWCC with the collaboration of barangay officials, the
CENRO and PENRO for the maintainability of the cleanliness and conservation of beaches.
D. Components and Activities
This project provides the following activities which support the objectives of this proposal
and efficiently manipulate the behavior of each residents in this place:
A. Community participation along with CENRO and PENRO officials and DWCC
staff involvement for the purpose of coastal cleanup drive project.
