LESSON PLAN in PHYSICAL EDUCATION and HEALTH – Grade 11

I. OBJECTIVES

A. CONTENT STANDARD The learner demonstrates understanding of sports in optimizing one’s health as a habit; as requisite for
physical activity assessment performance, and as a career opportunity.

B. PERFORMANCE STANDARD The learner lead sports event with proficiency and confidence resulting in independent pursuit and in
influencing others positively.
At the end of the unit, learners will be able to:

D. Motivation With the music, the Teacher will lead a dance exercise using a multimedia presentation.
V. LESSON PROPER

A. ACTIVITY Here’s How:


Students will be divided into four groups. Each group will be given letters cut into pieces. Each group will
arrange the letters to complete the word. The group to finish last in arranging the letters will be eliminated.
The group remain will win the game.

Single Elimination
- Also known as the Knock-out System
- Is when a player or team loses, they get eliminated; the winning player or team continues to play to the
next round. This happen until there is only one team left, which will be declared the winner. This is
usually used when time is limited while sacrificing maximum play.
- It is the simplest to arrange and fastest way to proclaim the winner.
- Best use when:
o When the number of entries is large
o When the time is short
o When the number of playing venue is limited

How to compute the number of games?

1. Compute the number of games using the formula in Single type of tournament.
Formula : G=N-1
Where: G= number of games
N= number of entries

2. Compute the number of byes using the formula:


Formula: bye=𝝆𝟐-N
Where: P – least power of 2 higher than N
Fixed value – 2,4,8,16,32…(2x2=4x2…)
N- number of entries

Bye – entitles a team or player to advance to the next round without playing

Advantages and Disadvantages of Single Elimination Tournament format

Steps in making a diagram:


1. Assign letters/numbers to the participating teams.
2. Underline each letters.
3. Assign byes and pair the remaining teams.
4. Write the game numbers.

A. APPLICATION Ask students the following:


1. What is single elimination?
2. When is single elimination tournament format best apply in the conduct of a sport event?
3. Compare and contrast the advantages and disadvantages of using single elimination format in a sport
event,
Board Work.
The teacher will ask two or three students to write in the board. Students will make a diagram using single
elimination format for 6 and 7 teams. Others will practice making a diagram in the paper.

VI. EVALUATION 1. It is a type of elimination tournament where the loser of each match-up is immediately eliminated from
the tournament.
2. It refers to a player or team that advances to the next round.
3. What is the formula to get the number of games in a tournament?
4. How many is the number of byes if there are 10 entries?
5. Make a diagram of a game with eight entries using single elimination format.

*Rubrics will be used in the assessment.
