I. INTRODUCTION

Ben and Jerry's Homemade Inc. is a manufacturing company of super premium
ice cream, frozen yogurt and ice cream novelties in rich and original flavors, loaded
with big chunks of cookies and candy. Ben and Jerry's Homemade Inc. was founded in
May 1978 by Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield. Their first Ice cream shop was opened
in an old renovated gasoline station in Burlington, Vermont. During 1987 Cherry Garcia
Ice Cream was introduces by Ben and Jerry's and it was named for grateful dead guitarist
Jerry Garcia at the suggestion of two "Deadheads" from Portland, it becomes the first
ice cream named for a rock legend. The product of Ben and Jerry's was hailed as "the
best ice cream in the world" in 1981 by the Time Magazine.
Ben and Jerry’s Homemade Inc. is a successful manufacturing company
however, the company receive customer complaint regarding to Cherry Garcia Ice
Cream product due to not enough cherry counts. Based on the study, during the
inspection in the process, the problem is not about the count of cherry in Cherry Garcia
product but it is the switching of the two different packaging.

In this case, they simply changed the photo on the box to solve the current
problem. In this study the researchers will solve the problem by applying Enterprise
Resource Planning System to avoid reoccurrence of the said problem.
II. PROBLEM STATEMENT
Ben and Jerry Homemade Inc. is experiencing customer complaint about the
insufficient amount of cherries in their product Cherry Garcia Ice Cream due to
switching packaging of two different products.

GENERAL OBJECTIVE
To resolve customer complaint regarding the Cherry Garcia Variant by the
application of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE
To apply bar coding system to all the products of Ben and Jerry.
To provide systematize checklist for the packaging materials.
To provide more convenient inventory segregation of different packaging
materials for every finished good.

III. ALTERNATIVE COURCES OF ACTION (ACA)
III.I. Applying bar coding system to all the products of Ben and Jerry
By applying bar coding system and with the help of the application of Enterprise
Resource Planning in Ben and Jerry products will help the company in solving the
current problem which is experiencing the customer complaint and will help them to
increase their productivity. (Pointil systems, 2012) Bar codes are the most popular of
the automatic data entry methods. It is a pattern of parallel bars and spaces of variable
widths arranged in a specific predetermined pattern to represent a corresponding
number, letter, or symbol. The information in a bar code is contained in the relative
thickness and relative position of the lines and spaces within the specific data characters.
Scanner convert the bars and spaces into usable information for data entry.

III.II. Providing systematize checklist for the packaging materials
Providing a systematize checklist for the packaging materials is very important
most especially in a manufacturing company like in Ben & Jerry’s Homemade Inc., the
packaging are manually fed to the machine. According to Istape 2013, top quality
production work cannot be achieved without comprehensive documentation of the
practicable, viable and important check points at every stage of production. It aims at
creating confidence in the customer that an industry is practicing scientific and
systematic mark approach in the process of assuring quality to their products. To ensure
that there would be no product mix-ups, checklist should be provided for every
manufacturing processes in an industry.

III.III. Providing more convenient inventory segregation of different packaging
materials for every finished good
Having inventory segregation of different packaging materials for every finished
goods will bring convenient to the production specially to the company, it will help them
to easily track or trace if there is product packaging mix up like what happened on the
Cherry Garcia Ice Cream and Cherry Garcia Froyo. According to Joshi, 2018, the
advantages of separation system are to improve material storage and handling, minimize
raw materials wastage, and reduce manufacturing costs. The proper segregation will
ensure that the raw materials will not be mixed and will not create confusion.

V. CONCLUSION
The researchers concluded that in order to solve the customer complaint, the
initial plan is to change the photo in the packaging of the Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia
Ice Cream. It is also important to have proper labeling to ensure that no product mix-up
will happen and also because labels are important for consumers. It is their guide on
what to expect about the contents of the product. As a result, good labeling and
packaging satisfied and contented customers.
VI. RECOMMENDATION
By applying the bar coding system to all the products of Ben and Jerry’s
Homemade Inc. will prevent some of the minor mistakes such as the switching
of product in to their respective package.
By providing systematize checklist for the packaging materials that will be much
better than having a checklist manually.
By providing more convenient inventory segregation of different packaging
materials for every finish good using the Enterprise Resource Planning System
will make the work much easier and much lesser human error in packaging.
