Radio History timeline

The beginning of Radio (November 19, 1834)

Lots of controversy have been going on about who is the inventor of radio many people think it is Guglielmo Marconi
or some of the people who discovered electromagnetic waves like Michael Faraday or Heinrich Rudolf Hertz. James
Clerk Maxwell writes a book stating the prediction that electromagnetic waves do exsist.

Marconi’s Discovery (December 16, 1901)

Marconi claims to have recieved the first radio signal. Marconi starts doing more complex experiments going aboard
the SS Philadelphia and getting radio signals from there as well. Marconi receives paton for inventing the radio.

More Inventions in Radio technology (December 24, 1904)

Reginald Fessenden makes first radio broadcast. First clear transmission of voice and music made. First radio news
broadcast founded in Detroit, Michigan.

Commercials in Radio (August 9, 1932)

Commercials put into radio broadcasts for the first time. Soap Opera’s appear on radio broadcasts. FM radio was
patented and made by Edwin H. Armstrong.

More inventions in Radio (September 19, 1954)

First pocket radio transistor invented. Sony makes radio transistors small enough to fit in small vest pocket, very
durable radios at the time. Aircrafts start having AM radio broadcasts in flights.

60’s and 70’s in Radio (September 23, 1963)

TELSTAR, the first communication satellite invented. Digital radios invented when long distance telephone network
converted to digital network. LORAN became premier radio navigation system.

The late 1980’s and the early 1990’s in radio (September 23, 1987)

GPS satellite invented to help navigate. Radio signals processed by audio cards in personal computers. Radio
program for computer topics invented and broadcasted.

Mid to Late 1990’s I Radio History (August 26, 1994)

U.S army and DARPA launched successful project to make software radios. Software radios changed softwares in
broadcasts. Digital transmissions applied in broadcasts.
