Course Syllabus

Course Title: Research Methods in Political Science (RES/METH)


2nd Semester, 2016-2017

Course Instructor: Asst. Prof. M.Z. Rodriguez

Course Description:

Research Methods in Political Science introduces the student the basic tools of the discipline
in the investigation of political phenomena. These basic tools in the long run will also allow
the student to undertake research projects that may deal with policy formulation or even
assessment and formulation of programs or projects in governance or development related
work. In essence, this course will situate the student to the heart of the action in the
discipline.

As such, the many approaches, including those adopted from allied disciplines will be taken
up in the course with the view of applying them in actual research. Much of the various
issues and contestations featuring the different approaches will be part of the course as
much.

Course Objectives:

At the end of the course, you are expected to be able to:

1. Understand the purposes of which and allow the adoption of the


same in future research or related work.
2. Understand the different methodologies and design in conducting
research and
3. Develop the capacity to apply the concepts, approaches learned in
doing actual research in the future.
