PHYS 10.01
1. Sea Levels
Due to global warming, the ice caps are starting to melt off. When the ice melts
off, the sea level rises. According to National Geographic, the sea level has rose a total of
eight inches since the year 1880. The rise in sea levels are a bad thing for our planet. Lands
are sinking slowly and arctic animals are losing their home. Some have even gone extinct
due because of the sea level rising. It’s truly a serious matter.
2. Lack of Freshwater
According to National Geographic, glaciers contain three-quarters of the Earth’s
freshwater supply. And according to the watercalculator.org, mountain meltwater runoff
holds 50% of our freshwater supply. With global warming and the continuous change in
temperature, the fast melting mountain snowpack can’t be accommodated by the natural
streams and reservoirs. Due to this, freshwater is wasted.
4. Climate Change
The temperature of the troposphere is continually rising due to the emission of
greenhouse gasses. The Earth is warming and therefore changing the routine of the species
inhabiting it. A lot are dying off as they cannot keep up with the change of habitats and
climate. This is greatly affecting the way of life we are used to. We are now reaching new
extreme levels of weather due to global warming.
5. Extreme Precipitation
Global warmping has changed the way the Earth works. Extreme precipitation has
been linked to the severe change of climate. Nowadays, rainfall is larger and less frequent.
Though as the rain is stronger, flooding is more frequent. The flooding destroys many
households and plantations. Altering our way of life forever.
