Bishop Night Out
TONIGHT, 11/7, 6 PM to 10 PM, Town Tavern, 201 Massachusetts Avenue, Arlington
Get your babysitters, Bishop Night Out is here! Please join the
PTO Board on Thursday, November 7, 2019, for a fall mix and
mingle event at Town Tavern. We listened to our amazing
community and brought Bishop Night Out back to its roots: a
community event, focused on socializing with each other and
building relationships among parents, guardians, teachers and
administrators. No fundraising--just fun!
Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door and will cover finger foods and appetizers. Teachers and
school staff members are welcome free of charge. Cash bar.
For any questions, or dietary restrictions or allergies, please contact Ami Fatula at amifatula@gmail.com.
When you arrive on campus, your child may enter through the front or back door. Parents and family members say
goodbye at the door.
If you are wondering if it’s an indoor arrival, you will see a red flag posted on the Bishop School sign in front of the
school
Proper Cold Weather Attire - Regardless of the temperatures during the late fall and winter months, please ensure
that your child comes to school equipped with the proper winter gear (hat, gloves, jacket, and appropriate footwear)
PTO NEWS
Thank you to those parents/guardians who attended the November PTO meeting last night. At the meeting,
the PTO board informed the community that last February, Bishop PTO’s nonprofit status, also known as
501(c)(3), had been lost. A board member worked with a CPA firm to correct this by submitting all required
documentation; IRS acknowledged the receipt of documents in July. We now have the IRS reviewer’s verbal
permission to start using our nonprofit number. We expect Bishop PTO to be back on the IRS’s nonprofit
database in 4 to 5 weeks. Please wait to submit your matching donations request until our name appears in
the system. We have also submitted a separate application to reinstate the status retroactively to the
revocation date. Please see the PTO meeting minutes, when posted, for more details.
Our next Green Team meeting will be next Friday 11/15 at 7:30 AM
Jen Davidson-Jardeleza
Please contact Elisa Komoni and Christina Marko by emailing bishopschool.pto@gmail.com to find out more
about these positions or if you’re interested.
Fundraising Coordinator - The Fundraising Coordinator, a board position, oversees and schedules
PTO fundraising events with the Co-Presidents, generate ideas for future events, and manage
ongoing fundraising initiatives. As the event schedules have been set for this school year, the
fundraising coordinator will work with our already-assigned very-capable event coordinators and then
manage other fundraisers, for example, the camp auction.
Fundraising Assistant - The Fundraising Assistant will assist the Fundraising Coordinator in the
duties listed above.

PTO-SPONSORED EVENTS
Walkathon
Friday, 11/8, After School, Bishop Field
Get your walking shoes on! Our 9th annual Walkathon this year will be
held on Friday, November 8th. All kids K through 5th grade can
participate in this fun and easy fundraising event for the PTO. The kids walk/run laps around the BIshop field
in the back of the school building, with the option of earning pledges per lap or a fixed donation. Last year the
Walkathon raised $13K! We’re looking for volunteers to check in students and then help them count the laps
by punching their cards. Please sign up to help out.
For the past 4 years we have used an online fundraising tool called Pledgestar. With Pledgestar, kids can
solicit donations from family members and friends; those choosing to support the kids can make their
donations through the Pledgestar site or via check. A classroom prize will be awarded to the class with the
most pledges raised, and everyone receives a prize for participating!
Stay tuned for more information. For more information or to volunteer, please contact Katie Stencik
(kastencik@gmail.com).
We are thrilled to announce that this year’s play will be Honk! Jr.
This is a musical adaptation of the famous Hans Christian
Andersen story, The Ugly Duckling. The story incorporates a
message of acceptance and tolerance.
The production will be led for the fourth year by the talented
children’s theatre director Sarah Morrison Zeitman, assistant
director and choreographer Noa Barankin, and rehearsal assistant Julie Joseph.
Key Dates
11/8 (Fri): 9 AM: Registration Opens at www.bishopschoolpto.com/bishop-school-play
12/3 (Tue): 7 PM: Mandatory parent volunteer meeting

Enrichment Programs
Thursday, 11/14
4th Grade -- A Spellman Stamp Museum educator will visit each of the 4th grade classrooms to explore the
history of stamps and the U.S. Postal System with the 4th graders. The presentations will focus on US History
covered in this year's 4th grade curriculum.
Save the date if your student(s) missed the first picture day or they may need to take another one. Look for
more information in November
Planning for this year's Craft Fair has begun. We are grateful to the Knights of Columbus for allowing us to
once again use their space at 15 Winslow Street. This years Craft Fair is scheduled for Thursday, December
5th from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. It's a great opportunity to mingle with the Bishop community and get some
holiday shopping done.
Calling Student Crafters - As always we would like to invite our 4th and 5th graders to participate. We have
limited space available, please reach out to Jen Davidson-Jardeleza for more information.

COMMUNITY NEWS
Getting ready for winter by sorting through your children's winter gear? If you have jackets, snow pants, boots,
hats, gloves, or other warm clothing that is too small for your children, consider donating it to the Bishop Recess
Closet. This closet provides all Bishop students with clean, dry, and warm clothing so that they can play
comfortably on the playground and do their best learning in the classroom. Donations of clean clothing items
may be dropped off at Ms. Bell's classroom or left in the office for Ms. Bell to pick up. Thank you in advance!
Please feel free to come if you can join us for one or both.
Join the youth climate movement this Friday and protect our climate, our earth and our future
at the corner of 630 Mass Ave and Pleasant Street. Everyone is encouraged to wear an
orange, yellow, red or pink hat with a bike light or other lighting to manifest our theme: "The
Earth is On Fire, and So Are WE!" and a warm coat. You are welcome to join that march
from Thompson pineapple doors at 3:45 pm or meet there at 4:30-6 pm.
Children / Parents will be invited to drop off their leftover Halloween Candy at the offices of Arlington
Orthodontics during the regular office hours on 11/8 and 11/9. We will give the child or parent $2 / lb (max $10).
We will then make a matching donation to the child’s school PTO. All candy is shipped to troops serving
overseas!! The troops appreciate the candies for themselves and to share with local children to create a good
will.
Last year, we sent over 1800 lbs of candy to our troops and raised over $3000 for Arlington Elementary School
PTOs! We had a great showing from all 7 of the Arlington Elementary schools.
All are invited to the Third Annual SAGE TABLE LGBTQIA+ Intergenerational Meal (and this year we will be
hosting KARAOKE as well), at the Arlington Senior Center. SAGE tables will be occurring all throughout the
country at the same time. All ages and all are welcome. This event is cosponsored by the Arlington COA and
the Arlington Rainbow Commission and supported in part by a grant from the Boston Pride Community Fund.
Although RSVPs are not mandatory, they do help ensure enough free food on hand, so please email
MShapiro-Ide@town.arlington.ma.us if you plan on attending.
Registration for PreK through 8th grade is now open until November 15 at this link.
Late fee will apply after that. (clinic players in PreK, Kindergarten and Grade 1 are not
charged late fees.) For information on registration policies including refunds,
eligibility and “no requests” please visit our website here. Please use your EXISTING family account so that we
retain your player’s history - if you create a new account and player record(s), we cannot guarantee placement
on the same team.
Please visit our website for additional program information and fee schedule – and, like us on Facebook!
