PREFACE
This documentation report presents the knowledge on the
on-the-job training attended by the author.
On-the-job training is performing tasks that helps to spark
student’s interest in career field which typically used to
broaden their cognitive and inquiry set of skills and to
increase productivity, great way to create a student interest
in subjects, helps establishes discipline, and increase
their motivation for learning with the properly and
systematically under the supervision of the head or
supervisor.
The main purpose of the on-the job training is to expose
students to the field, applying the things they learned in
school, and gives the practical approach to them with tactile
actual experiences. It gives great opportunity for students
to not only observe but also to actively participate in the
event going on around them.

REPORT
History of the Company
The construction of the Magat Dam and appurtenant Structures
was authorized By P.D. 693 signed on May 7, 1975 by the late
President Ferdinand E. Marcos. The Dam was constructed in

1978
and was inaugurated by President Marcos on October 27, 1982.
It started operations in 1983. The project was implemented

based
on the preliminary study conducted in 1973 by the National
Irrigation Administration (NIA) with the assistance of the
United States Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) and the United

States
Agency for International Development (USAID). Subsequent
detailed and extensive dam site investigation and engineering
studies further confirmed the feasibility of what is now known
as NIA's most daring infrastructure project and one of Asia's
biggest dams today. The dam is part of the Magat River
Multipurpose Project (MRMP) which aimed to improve the

existing
Magat River Irrigation System (MARIS) and the Siffu River
Irrigation System (SIFFRIS) and increase the production of

rice
in the Cagayan River basin.The project was jointly financed

by
the Philippine Government and the World Bank which extended

a
US $50M loan to finance the foreign exchange requirement. In
addition, a US $9M from Bahrain was obtained for the purchase
of other equipment for the diversion tunnels, soils

laboratory
and model testing. Total project cost is 3.4B pesos (yr.

1975).
The irrigation facilities, including the reservoir, the

intake
gates to the hydroelectric plant, and the dam itself, is

owned
and managed by the National Irrigation Administration (NIA)
while the hydroelectric plant was owned by the National
Power Corporation (Napocor). Under the Electric Power

Industry
Reforms Act of 2001 (Republic Act No. 9136), the Magat Dam
hydroelectric plant underwent a privatization process. As a
result, the plant's ownership and operation was turned
over to SN Aboitiz Power Inc. (SNAP), a joint venture of a

local
company, Aboitiz Equity Venture (AEV), and the Norwegian SN

Power
Invest (SN Power) in April2007.

MISSION
To construct, operate and maintain irrigation system
consistent with integrated water resource management
principles to improve agricultural productivity and increase
farmers’ income.
VISION
By 2020, NIA is a proffessional and efficient irrigation
agency contributing to the inclusive growth of the country
and in the improvement of the farmers’ quality of life
GOALS
To develop and maintain irrigation system in support of
the agricultural program of the government; to provide
adequate level of irrigation service on a sustainable basis
in partnership with the farmers ad local government units; to
provide technical assistance to institution in the
development of the water resources for irrigation; to
improved and sustain the operation if NIA as a viable
corporation and service-oriented agency

May 28, 2018
We attend the Monday Flag Ceremony and after Ceremony, we
Visited the MARIIS DAM and Familiarize the parts and Equipment
being use to operate the dam.
May 29, 2018
Every 8:00 in the morning we are required to attend the
tool box meeting. After attending the tool box meeting, We
went to MARIS Dam and Studied the manual of OGEE Spillway
Radial Gates and Equipment’s Operation and Maintenance
Manual.
May 30, 2018
We attended the Tool Box Meeting. After the meeting Our
Office Head tested our skills and gave us the Diagram of Magat
Hydro Electric Power Plant and the Magat Dam Complex Power
System to review and to explain.
May 31, 2018
We attended the Tool Box Meeting. After the Meeting we
reviewed the Gantry Crane Manual of Maris Dam.
June 4, 2018
We attended the Monday Flag Ceremony. After the Ceremony
we attended the Tool Box Meeting and ask our next location
for our OJT and He assigns us to spillway.
June 5, 2018
We attended the Tool Box Meeting before going to spillway.
Our supervisor tours us in the Magat River Multipurpose
Project Spillway Substation and the Magat River Multipurpose
Project Power Intake Gate and Learned how the operation works.
June 6, 2018
We attended the Tool Box Meeting and then we went into our
duty location. We iinspected the gantry crane, familiarized
some of its parts and functions. Climbed and visited the
Gantry Crane’s power supply, main hoist motor, and auxiliary
hoist motor and went to crane cabin and watched the crane
controls for operation.
June 7, 2018
We Attended the Tool Box Meeting before going into our
duty location. We visited the Orifice Spillway Radial Gate
and Analyzed the hydraulic Diagram.
June 8, 2018
We attended the Tool Box Meeting before going into our
duty location. We reviewed the OGEE SPILLWAY RADIAL OPERATION
& MAINTENANCE MANUAL.
June 11, 2018
We attended the Monday Flag Ceremony after the ceremony we
attended the Tool Box Meeting and ask for our new duty
location. We went to Baligatan Hydro Electric Power Plant.
June 13, 2018
This day after attending our Tool Box Meeting we the ojt`s
go in Baligatan Hydroelectric Power Plant we were oriented by
Engr. Donnie (assigned electrical engineer in BHPP) about the
electrical matters of the power plant and after our
orientation we were assigned in the control room to observe
how the employee`s to their jobs.
June 14, 2018
Tool Box Meeting is always held in EMS section the
maintenances, engineers, and other employee`s held their
meeting before going in their designated area. After the
meeting the head engineer of Baligatan Hydro Electric Power
Plant Engr. Francisco gave us a task. He said that there will
be no more rotation will be held in our duties and he want us
to make a presentation of the Operation of Baligatan
Hydroelectric Power Plant so we will spend all of our time in
the power plant. After the meeting we were sent in BHPP by
the company`s service truck. We spent our whole day observing
the mechanical maintenance team on how do their jobs because
it is also included in our presentation.
June 20, 2018
There are so many holidays held in NIA MARIIS this week
we only have three days. After our Tool Box Meeting we go
in the Baligatan Hydroelectric Power Plant site we spent
our day to personally educate ourselves along with those
manuals and instructions on how to operate the power plant.
June 21, 2018
After our Tool Box Meeting we go in the site together with
Engr. Jesper (Mechanical Engineer assigned in the BHPP) to
orient us about the purpose of power intake, spherical valve,
pipeline, bifurcation, and Tandem High Pressure Gates. Our
supervisors are always busy they said that they will orient
us when they have a leisure time. After the orientation we
spent our remaining time observing the mechanical maintenance
team.
June 22, 2018
After our toolbox meeting we go in the BHPP site together
with Engr. Jesper he spent his whole day by orienting and
also teaches us about the penstock, turbine, generator,
transformers, and substation.
June 25, 2018
Today is Monday before going in our toolbox meeting NIA
MARIIS conduct a flag ceremony. After the flag ceremony and
toolbox meeting we went in the Baligatan site and spent our
day helping the electrical maintenance team to test and check
those switch gears use in the power plant.
June 26, 2018
After attending in our toolbox meeting we went in the
Baligatan site and spent our day helping the electrical
maintenance team to check the transformers use in the power
plant if the transformers are in good condition and if the
transformers insulator and oils are still good to be used.
June 27, 2018
After attending our toolbox meeting we went in the
Baligatan site and spent our day learning about the operation
of the BHPP.
June 29, 2018
After our toolbox meeting we went in the Baligatan site
and we spent our day in control room section to help those
crew`s in their jobs.
July 2, 2018
After the toolbox the head of the BHPP Engr. Francisco
said that the deadline of our presentation is July 6, 2018.
We went in the Baligatan site to make a power point of our
presentation.
July 3, 2018
After the toolbox meeting we went in the Baligatan site
and spent our day asking those maintenance team and control
room crew about the purposes and uses of protection devices
installed in the power plant.
July 4, 2018
In our toolbox meeting the OIC in EMS section Engr. Remocal
told that they will be having maintenance in Baligatan site
the AIR PRESSURE VALVES need to cleaned and fixed immediately.
After the toolbox meeting we went to Baligatan site to help
the mechanical maintenance crew to help in their jobs and
also learned the purpose of the device.
July 5, 2018
After our toolbox meeting we went to Baligatan site and

spend our day reviewing our presentation.
July 6, 2018
Today is our presentation after the toolbox meeting we
present our presentation. The head of BHPP Engr. Francisco
said the mechanics of our presentation. The presentation will
be one of our grading system in our OJT if we can`t answer
those five question about the operation of BHPP that they
will be asking he will failed all of us in our OJT. We screw
up our presentation thankfully Engr. Fracisco gave us a
chance, he said that we can tell to him anytime if we were
ready to present again our presentation.
July 9, 2018
This day is Monday after the flag raising ceremony we went
in our toolbox meeting the OIC in EMS section Engr. Remocal
said that the BHPP need to shut down because the water head
required to operate the power plant is running low. We went
to Baligatan site together with the Engineers after the
meeting and we observe the maintenance team on how to properly
shut down the power plant. We learned that you need to make
sure the safety of all the devices installed in the power
plant before shutting down the power plant.
July 10, 2018

After our toolbox meeting we went to Baligatan site to
help the maintenance team to check and test the turbine and
generator parts if they are problems that need to be fixed.
July 11, 2018
After our toolbox meeting we went again to Baligatan site
to help the electrical maintenance team on checking the
generator in the power plant.
July 12, 2018
After our toolbox meeting we went to Baligatan site. We
spent our day reviewing and mastering our presentation.

Today is our final presentation regarding of the Operation
of Baligatan Hydroelecric Power Plant. We need to defend our
presentation to the engineers of BHPP and thankfully our
presentation went smoothly. Finally we passed the
presentation.
