A Semi Detailed Lesson Plan in BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE

(The Human Anatomy)

I. Objectives: At the end of a forty minutes discussion, students will be able to:
a) distinguish the internal and external structures including the different
parts of a human body,
b) address the primary functions, locations and structural forms of each
part,
c) produce a healthy lifestyle activities in order to maintain and upgrade a
well nourished and sound body, and
d) adopt then apply the stated activities through daily living.
II. Motivation:
1. The whole class will be divided into three groups.
2. Then each group will be given a team name such as brain team, heart team and
lungs team.
3. Each member in every group will be instructed to write healthy lifestyle activities
that will lead to a well nourished and sound human part at the chalkboard. The
brain team will be concentrating on activities to a healthy brain, then heart team
will be also focusing on practices for heart itself while the task of lungs team are
ways to attain a healthy human lungs.
4. The facilitator will check and expand the suggested activities by the students.
And each correct answer will be added on the raw scores of every team.
III. Development/outline of the lesson:
Subject Matter: Human Anatomy
A. History of Human Anatomy
The history of human anatomy has been characterized, over a long period of time,
by an ongoing, developing understanding of the functions of organs and structures in
the human body. Methods have advanced dramatically, from the simple examination by
dissection of animals and cadavers (corpses), to the development and use of the
microscope, to the far more technological advances of the electron microscope and
other complex techniques developed since the beginning of the 20th century. During the
19th and early 20th centuries it was the most prominent biological field of scientific study.
B. Definition of Human Anatomy
The human body includes the entire structure of a human being and comprises a
head, neck, trunk (which includes the thorax and abdomen), arms and hands, legs and
feet. Every part of the body is composed of various types of cells, the fundamental unit
of life.
C. Major human parts/organs
1. Brain-the organ of thought, emotion, memory and sensory processing, and
serves many aspects of communication and controls various systems and
functions.
2. Heart-propels the circulation of blood which serves as a ‘’transportation
system’’ to transfer oxygen, fuel, nutrients, waste products, immune cells, and
signaling molecules like hormones.
3. Blood-consist of fluid that carries cells in the circulation, including some that
move from tissue to blood vessels and back, as well as spleen and bone
marrow.
4. Lungs-brings oxygen from the air and excretes carbon dioxide and water back
into the air.
5. Skin-provides containment, structure, and protection for other organs, but it
also serve as a major sensory interface with the outside world.
6. Kidney-removes water from the blood to produce urine, which carries a
variety of waste molecules and excess ions and water out of the body.
7. Sex organs-produces gametes in each sex, a mechanism for their
combination, and nurturing environment for the first 9 months and
development of infant.
8. Endocrine Hormones-serve as signals from one body system to another
regarding an enormous array of conditions, and resulting in variety of
changes of function.
IV. Methods
A. Practice/Drill:
1st Students will be given different parts of a human body.
2nd Each student will be simultaneously asked to paste the parts in an empty
illustration of a human figure in its proper location.
3rd The facilitator will check and assess the work of the students.
B. Questioning:
Questions will be asked in the middle of discussions to help students recall
information, produce facts and ideas linked to the subject matter, to attract
students interest and arouse their curiosity.
Questions:
1. What comes to your mind when you hear the words “human anatomy”?
2. Why do we need to study human anatomy?
3. What are the common internal and external parts and organs of the
human body?
4. What are the functions of these parts and organs and where are they
located?
5. What might happen to our body if parts and organs are incomplete and not
functioning well?
6. How can we take good care of these human parts and organs?
C. Lectures/Explanation:
1st Introduction on the history and definition of human anatomy.
2nd Students will be given strips of manila papers containing the functions of
the human organs and parts.
3rd Each student will be asked to paste the strips of manila papers on the
human parts and organs.
4th The facilitator will check and explain the functions of every human parts
and organs.
D. Demonstrations:
The facilitator will be using group discussion and cooperative teaching as a
means of demonstrating.
1st The whole class will be divided into three groups.
2nd Each member in a group will be task to write ways to gain a sound body.
3rd Students will paste the different parts of human body in an illustration of
empty body figure.
4th As a continuation of the activity, students will be task to paste the functions
of each human parts and organs.
V. Materials and Media:
1. Chalkboard
2. Laptop
3. Power point presentation projector
4. Educational graphics and video clips
5. Illustrations of the human anatomy
6. Pictures of the human parts and organs
7. Strips of a manila paper
VI. Assignment:
In a ½ intermediate pad paper, write 5 disorders and give its descriptions in the
following parts and organs of a human body:
a) Lungs
b) Brain
c) Heart
d) Skin
e) Kidney
EXAMPLE:
a) Lungs
1. Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanokoniosis-characterized by massive
fibrosis of the lungs resulting in shortness of breath and caused by prolonged
inhalation of silica dust.
