STEP Standard 7 – Reflecting on Instruction to Improve Student

Progress
Improved Practice Based on the Unit of Study
Based on the experience of developing and delivering your instructional unit, list three short-
term goals to improve specific areas of your teaching practice based on the unit of instruction
and describe your plan to reach each short-term goal.

Plan to Reach the Goal (i.e., professional

Short-Term Goal development, research on the Internet,
observation of a veteran teacher, etc.)
1. Inspiring Students More than anything, this online transition has
been confusing. I know my students are
trying to juggle all their classes through this
media and it can be hard to stay positive. I
want to find ways to encourage them through
my weekly emails, just a small addition to
brighten their day.

2. Work on effective online teaching I was not prepared for this online format, and
strategies neither was my school. We have been
scrambling since day 1. I want to find some
effective strategies through all of this mess to
hopefully be better prepared for if something
like this ever happens again.

3. Contribute to my team I have seen emails back and forth from

teachers throughout this process, but I
haven’t really felt comfortable stepping in
and adding anything to the conversation. I’d
like to step out of that and be an asset to my
team.

Long-Term Goals: Teachers who are dedicated to their profession and to improving the lives of
students will continually look for ways to grow and learn. The best way to ensure that learning is
prioritized is to create a long-term goal. Create one long term goal that is specific and
measurable. Make sure to discuss the following:
Long-Term Goal: Integrate more technology into the clasroom
Rationale: Why did you choose this goal? How I chose this goal based on what I have learned
do you expect it to improve the outcomes of your in this online platform. The world has been
future students? technologically geared for a while, and I think
some classrooms have not embraced that,
leaving students behind at times like these. If
we implemented these strategies earlier, and
geared more learning to tech-based earlier,
perhaps this whole transition could have been
easier. I think this will improve the outcomes
of my future students as the world continues
to be more online. Once we go back into
regular classrooms, the tech-based learning is
not going to stop, it will grow. So being
prepared for that will really help them in their
future endeavors.
End Date: By when do you expect to accomplish I will accomplish this goal in my classroom

Action Timeline: What steps will you take to I will adapt my lessons (not all of them, but a

Resources: What resources are available to assist The school I have been hired at for the 20/21

They have Chromebooks for all the students,
smart boards, projectors, nice teacher
computers, etc. So that will be very helpful
when working towards this goal.
