    Sericulture, the practice of breeding silkworms for production of raw silk, has been under

    way for atleast 5000 years in China. Silkworm diseases have many different names
    throughout the history of silk production, but modern scientists use French names: Pebrine,
    Muscardine, Flacherie and Grasserie. The early history in discovery of insect pathogen of silk
    worm and its effect on silk industry can be described through the research works of different
    scientists throughout the 18th and 19th century.
