FROM THEWILLY
FOUNDER
N. OCIER

As another year comes to a close, we cannot help but look back

and realize how the days have flown by so fast. Like the sun that’s
waiting to meet with the horizon, all things must come to an end
to make way for better things.

2018 is indeed a preparation for greater things ahead here at

Tagaytay Highlands. Our community continues to grow as
we welcome new members and residents. Our most coveted
developments have made expansions including the launch of a
new residential property, all at par with the high life you truly
deserve.

Our master-planned residential developments continue to

evolve into charming hideaways for you and your family. Several
log cabins have been launched at Woodlands Point while lots
have been opened at our Japanese-themed community Yume
overlooking the fine fairways of the Midlands golf course.
Furthermore, Horizon Terraces unveiled its newest Asian-
contemporary themed condominium building and a new phase
at Vireya will cater to individuals and their loved ones who savor
a laidback yet vibrant lifestyle amidst this tropical community.

The latest addition to our extensive collection of residential

developments is Provence, a Southern France-inspired lot
community situated on a prime location at the Midlands. Future
residents can dwell in this hilltop residential development of lush
and floral landscaping with scenic views of the Taal Lake and
Volcano.

Renovations have been in the works at the Club to make sure our
services and facilities will be in top shape when we kick off our
25 th anniversary celebration next year. With this, we only keep
in mind our promise of providing world-class amenities for each
member of the family to enjoy.

Let us raise our glasses high and make a toast to the year that
was, and another toast to an exciting year that is to come for all of
us. As you spend your most precious time with those who truly
matter the most, Tagaytay Highlands will always be a home you
can spend these lasting memories in.

NOTES FROM THE EXECUTIVE OFFICE
Every year, we give and receive numerous greetings during the holiday season. We
may not always be aware of it, but messages of joy, hope, and love are always in our
hearts, especially during this time of merrymaking.

The spirit of Christmas serves as our guiding star, not just every Yuletide but also
throughout the year. As we strive to keep the Club an ideal and family-oriented
community, we make sure our enthusiasm to foster a safe, positive, and pleasant
environment for our members, guests, and employees remain unrelenting. Thus,
in every little thing we do, we try to share happiness, bring glimmers of hope, and
promote love for one another.

We are a big, happy family at Tagaytay Highlands. We aim to emphasize that once
again this season. Just like in the past 24 years, we are keeping the Club your ideal
destination for the holidays. We welcome you home as you turn into the festive
mood, sit back to assess your year, and plan to spend a meaningful Christmas as
you cap 2018 with your loved ones.
JERRY C. TIU
May you, your family, and friends make and enjoy many more memories of CLUB PRESIDENT

Time flies so fast! It is Christmas season once again. As always, we invite you to visit and
‘come home’ here at the Club, where Christmas is always fabulous.

It has become our tradition to make the holidays special throughout Tagaytay
Highlands. We never run out of worthwhile and memorable surprises. For the month
of December, we have some of our biggest events coming up—the 21st President’s Cup
will usher in the month; Santa Claus is coming over on the 25th; we have numerous
holiday activities throughout the month; and of course, we are geared up for the New
Year’s Eve Countdown, a special one as we welcome 2019, the year Tagaytay Highlands
turns 25.

This month, our Holy Family Chapel is set to welcome you home, through its heart-
warming lineup of Christmas programs and special Masses. After nourishing your
spirit, our Club facilities are also waiting to provide you the best services, recreational
itineraries, and sumptuous meals. You and your loved ones will never run out of fun
and meaningful bonding activities up here.

christmas in jose
heart-warming holiday memories
mari chan’s heart
Interview by Highlands View Staff

C
hristmas is always fabulous in the Philippines, thanks
to singer-composer Jose Mari Chan. Twenty-eight
years after the release of the ubiquitous Yuletide
hit ‘Christmas in Our Hearts,’ it is still the most popular
holiday song for Filipinos (no one can contest this fact).
The album with the same title—where the hit single was
lifted—remains as the best selling by an Original Pilipino
Music (OPM) artist of all time.

At 73, the Double Diamond-award hitmaker is still among

the most sought-after performers in the local music scene.
At the same time, he is also a successful businessman,
a proud dad to his children, and a cool grandpa to eight
wonderful grandkids. Chan now considers music as a
hobby.

As you sing or hum ‘Christmas in Our Hearts’ this season,

it will be worthwhile to take a peek into the legendary
music icon’s good heart. The Highlands View has recently
touched base with Jose Mari Chan and instantly realized
why ‘happy holidays’ is always in his heart.

HV: What impact has your iconic song ‘Christmas In Our

Hearts’ brought to your life?

Jose Mari Chan: I’ve been a recording artist since 1967

and have been known generally for my romantic songs,
like ‘Deep in My Heart,’ ‘Can We Just Stop and Talk A While,’
‘Refrain,’ ‘Tell Me Your Name,’ ‘A Love to Last a Lifetime,’
‘Please Be Careful with My Heart,’ ‘Beautiful Girl,’ and many
others—all associated with Valentine’s Day. My love songs
have become theme songs of many, many couples my age.
I sometimes joke that my romantic ballads have, in some
way, contributed to the population boom in our country. We were only 40 million when I started my recording career.
Now, we are over a hundred million.

Seriously, it’s a blessing that my ‘Christmas in Our Hearts’ has become a standard iconic song especially because
Christmas is our biggest festive season in the country—running for 4 months, as opposed to just one day, like
Valentine’s Day.

So, while some may have forgotten a few of my love songs, my ‘Christmas in Our Hearts’ is sung year after year by the
young and old alike. To me, it is a wonderful reward as a singer-songwriter, something I can truly be proud of—that
a song I created from my heart and mind has touched people’s lives and continues to do so year after year. It will be
a nice legacy, thank God.

HV: How do you react to all those social media memes and posts that feature you especially during the start of the
‘ber’ months in the country?

Jose Mari Chan: The memes and posts that feature me at the start of the BER months, I find amusing and complimentary.
It’s the millennials expressing themselves, and somehow they add to the awareness and perpetuation of my Christmas
songs. Thanks to all of them.

flaring passion
DJ Christian Tiu’s enthusiasm
P
assion is what drives Christian Joseph Alandy Dy Tiu, or DJ
Christian, to do the things he loves doing—and excel in those.
Aside from being a student taking up Legal Management at the
Ateneo de Manila University, he is also busy being a resident disc
jockey (DJ) in several bars and gracing numerous invitations to play
in different venues across the metro.

The 20-year-old DJ comes from a family of passionate individuals.

He is the youngest child of Tagaytay Highlands President Jerry Tiu
and his wife Lianne. DJ Christian’s older siblings have also made their
marks in their respective line of passion—Cheryl is an international
journalist; Chris is a seasoned basketball player, TV host, and
business man; Christine is an entrepreneur focusing on jewelry; and
Charles is a basketball coach, businessman, and sports analyst at
CNN Philippines.

He generously shared with us some of his experiences as a DJ as

well as his insights about his career and this growing segment of the
local music industry.

HV: How did your interest and passion for mixing/playing music
start?
DJ Christian: I started to get into music when I first learned the guitar
in high school. It exposed me to listen to many kinds of genres and
eventually developed my interest for putting songs together in a
seamless mix. I learned how to DJ when electronic dance music grew
in popularity in 2012 and I eventually pursued that passion which led
me to play in various venues around the city and become a resident
DJ in certain bars.
HV: Can you share with us any experience or event as a DJ that is most memorable/special to you? What lessons
or insights have you learned from that?
DJ Christian: It’s definitely memorable to see the crowd singing and dancing, simply enjoying the night and approach
me during or after my sets to tell me that I did a great job that night. Sometimes they even tip me money or buy
me a round of drinks because they loved my music so much and it really makes me feel appreciated knowing that
someone likes the music I play. I’ve also had nights where no one would be dancing or people wouldn’t care about
the music but I’ve learned that you just have to keep doing what you love and it will lead to many opportunities
eventually. I learned that you have to understand the reason for why you do things. If you do the right things for
the wrong reasons, you won’t get very far but if you’re passionate about something and you do it because you
love it, it will always keep that spark alive. This applies to anything in life whether it would be music, sports, work,
relationships, family, etc.

HV: How does your family support your passion?

DJ Christian: I thank my parents for allowing me to stay up and come home late at night because of gigs. My mother
really supports me with music, gives feedback on some of my sets, and always pushes me to always do better
in the things I do. My siblings also support me by attending some of my gigs and by recommending me to their
friends who need DJs for events. Music and arts are generally frowned upon in Chinese-Filipino families and it feels
somewhat assuring to know that they support me to an extent.

HV: What is your advice to all millennials out there who are also passionate about their particular interests?
DJ Christian: Ask yourself and re-evaluate whether or not you really like what you are doing and if you do love it, go
for it. Always challenge yourself to do better than the past and keep things real. Do your best and don’t settle for
less, and eventually, you will reach your goal.

EVENT REVIEW Tagaytay Highlands facilitates
‘Healing Sessions’

T
he Holy Family Chapel has started hosting a series of Healing
Ceremonies to further promote spiritual healing among
Club employees and members. The first session was held on
September 11, 2018, and the succeeding ones were facilitated on
October 14, November 11, and December 9, 2018.

Every session has so far gathered close to a hundred participants,

including friends and relatives of some employees and members—
individuals who need physical and spiritual healing. Rev. Father
Ferdinand ‘Soy’ Hernando, M.B. officiated all Healing Ceremonies,
which culminate in anointing of each participant and a special healing
prayer.

Based on a memorandum issued by the Club’s Human Resources

Department, the Healing Ceremony is open not only to employees
who are physically sick, but also those who are fostering negative
behaviors and emotions (including those who are hooked to vices like
gambling, smoking, alcoholism, and pornography and even those who
suffer from emotional pain and uncontrolled anger).

To know more about the Healing Ceremony and to inquire about the
schedule of the upcoming sessions, please ask the Chapel Coordinator
at the Holy Family Chapel before or after regular masses.

‘three-peat’ win

F
or the third consecutive year, Tagaytay Highlands
was declared as the overall Champion at the 14th
Sports Fest organized by the Federation of Golf
Club Comptrollers and Human Resource Managers
(FEDCOHR). Thus, it earned the ‘Threepeat, Grand
Slam Champion’ moniker, a rare achievement for the
members of the sports organization.

The Club, through its competitive and highly athletic

volunteer-employees who represented the company
with vigor, dominated the annual athletes’ tournament
in 2018 after winning 17 medals overall—6 Gold, 6
Silver, and 5 Bronze—in various sports events during
the single-day fest.

The Gold Medals were earned in 3K Run (Men), Badminton (Ladies), Badminton (Mixed), Darts, Swimming (Medley), and
Table Tennis (Ladies).

Since FEDCOHR’s establishment in 2005, Tagaytay Highlands has consistently fared as a main force to beat at the
FEDCOHR Sports Fest. It has established as a tradition the domination of most of the events at the tournament such as
Volleyball, Badminton, Swimming, Table Tennis, 3-Point Shoot-Out, Darts, Billiards, Bowling, Marathon, Golf, and even
Cheer Dance Competition. Even the Best Muse award is usually earmarked for the Club’s representative.

The FEDCOHR is a unifying body that promotes data-sharing and camaraderie among its seven golf and country club
member-institutions. The Sports Fest is held in different host clubs every year, providing an avenue for club employees
and affiliates to represent their companies in different sports competitions where they excel. In 2018, the Sports Fest was
held on September 10 at the Orchard Golf and Country Club in Dasmariñas, Cavite.

giant christmas tree lighting

T
he festive Christmas season officially started in
Tagaytay Highlands when the Club held its annual
giant Christmas Tree Lighting on December 1,
2018 (Saturday).

Members and guests (mostly those who attended the

regular 5 p.m. Saturday anticipated Mass) gathered
around the 70-foot Christmas tree at the heart of the
Holy Family Chapel Garden area to witness the symbolic
lighting, which began by 5:45 p.m.

General Manager Claire Kramer headed the short

and solemn ceremony. The tree was lighted in three
phases—each lighting followed the three-part Prayer of
the Faithful.

The symbolic lighting of the Christmas tree for 2018 was more special as it coincided with the time the Club’s major
renovations are getting a full swing. The Chapel’s roof was also repaired and a new set of gazebo replaced the old tents
in the area.
