or book entitled "Aladdin". It is a Disney's live action version of the hit animated Aladdin in the

year 1992. This movie was written by John August in the year 2019 and rewritten and directed

by Guy Ritchie. It is the story of a poor "street rat" who comes into possession of a magic lamp

princess and stop an evil vizier from stealing the kingdom away from the heroine’s dad

(www.rogerebert.com/reviews/aladdin-2019). This paper is intentionally want to identify what

is the purpose of the creators in creating this literary piece, as well as both of its positive and

negative aspects in terms of its plot, characters, conflict, theme and setting that are deemed

necessary in the creation of the aforesaid piece of literature.

This movie is all about Aladdin, the male protagonist and kind-hearted street urchin living in

the Arabian city of Agrabah along with his pet monkey Abu, rescues and befriends Princess

Jasmine the female protagonis, who has snuck out of the palace to explore, tired of her

sheltered life. Meanwhile, the grand vizier, Jafar the antagonist of the story, schemes to

overthrow Jasmine's father as the Sultan. He, along with his pet parrot sidekick Iago, seeks a

magic lamp hidden in the Cave of Wonders that will grant him three wishes.

Aladdin is captured and Jafar persuades him to retrieve the lamp. Inside the cave, Aladdin finds

a magic carpet and obtains the lamp. He gives it to Jafar, who double crosses him and throws

him back into the cave, though Abu steals the lamp back.
Trapped in the cave, Aladdin rubs the lamp, unwittingly summoning an omnipotent Genie,

Genie explains that he has the power to grant Aladdin three wishes. Aladdin tricks Genie into

freeing them from the cave without using a wish. After they get out of the cave, Genie advises

Aladdin to be very specific with wording his wishes; the vaguer they are, the more chance they

can backfire. Aladdin uses his first official wish to become a prince to impress Jasmine, and

promises to use his third wish to free Genie from servitude.

Aladdin enters Agrabah as Prince Ali of Ababwa—including Abu, whom Genie has transformed

into an elephant. However, Jasmine is unimpressed by his first presentation, including an

assortment of gifts and gems. The two later bond when he takes her on a ride on the magic

carpet to show her the world she wants to see while Genie goes out with Jasmine's

handmaiden Dalia. When Jasmine tricks Aladdin into revealing his true identity, he convinces

her that he is actually a prince and only dressed like a peasant to meet the citizens of Agrabah

beforehand. Jafar discovers Aladdin's identity and to test his theory, throws Aladdin into the

sea. Aladdin loses consciousness and awakens having been saved by Genie, at the cost of his

second wish. They then expose Jafar, who is arrested and imprisoned in the dungeon.

The Sultan offers Aladdin the position as heir to the throne. Lago snatches one of the guards’

keys and he frees Jafar. Jafar stealthily steals the lamp from Aladdin and becomes Genie's new

master. He uses his first two wishes to become Sultan and then, to become the world's most

powerful sorcerer, imprisoning the guards and Jasmine's pet tiger Rajah. He then exposes

Aladdin's identity to Jasmine and exiles him and Abu to a frozen wasteland. He threatens to kill

the Sultan and Dalia unless she agrees to marry him. At the wedding ceremony, Aladdin and
Abu return, having been rescued by the magic carpet and Jasmine steals back the lamp.

Furious, Jafar transforms Iago into a roc to give chase and overpowers them.

Aladdin stalls by telling to Jafar for being second only to Genie in terms of raw power, thereby

tricking him into using his last wish to become the most powerful being in the universe. Due to

the vagueness of the wish, Genie is able to use it to turn Jafar into a genie; chained to the lamp

without a master, Jafar gets trapped inside, dragging Iago inside with him. Genie throws Jafar's

lamp to the Cave of Wonders and Aladdin keeps his promise, using his last wish to free Genie

and allow him to live as a human. The Sultan declares that Jasmine will be the next ruler and

tells her that Aladdin is a good person, outlines how worthy he is and tells her as Sultan, she

can overturn the law that requires her to marry a prince. Genie marries Dalia and leaves to

explore the world and start a family with her. Aso, Aladdin and Jasmine get married and start a

new life. (www./en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aladdin_(2019_film))

This movie is represented some critical approaches like feminism, women in the movie are like

the women is Spanish era where their role in the society is never be greater to men. The father

of Princess Jasmine always say to her that she can't be a Sultan because she is a woman, that

she can't do what a man do, and can't lead the kingdom of Agrabah all by herself. In this state,

they're understimating the power of a woman but it brakes when Princess Jasmine prove to the

Sultan that she can, and all her emotion burst out through the song 'speechless' - a song about

the silencing of women by the patriarchy, and every lyrics she threw is so powerful that Hakim

the mosy trusted soldier in their palace is convinced by her words and still obey her even they

are no longer hold the thrown.

The concept of marxism, its in the first part of the movie when Hakim uttered to Aladdin "You

are born worthless, you are die worthless". In this, it shows how discrimination played in the

movie. People on the palace except the Sultan and Princess Jasmine use their power to

discriminate and humiliate people in their kingdom.

Also the psychoanalytic, first, its when id is what Jafar portrayed in the movie. He only think

what he wants, he desires and glory of himself. Also, he didn't think about the consequences of

all his actions that can harm the people of Agrabah and to himself as long as he get what he

wants. Second, to Aladdin that he is thorn between id and superego, the battle of doing what

he wants and doing what is right. Its when he is thinking if she will tell to Princess Jasmine the

truth or set aside it because he think that Princess Jasmine will not accept him if he tell his true

identity. Lastly, the mindset of the society that just because Aladdin is a thief, he is already a

bad person but they're wrong as it showed in the movie when Aladdin give a food to a beggar

instead of eating it. He proved that not all people that seen by the society as a danger is

actually a danger. Some of them are also have a golden heart.

And formalism, as it portrayed the role of every characters correctly based on their physical

appearance. In Aladdin with an ordinary clothes because he is a thief and poor person that they

also called street rat and Princess Jasmine with a glittery and majestic gown with luxurious

jewelries on her because she is portraying what a princess is.

For further explanation about the feminism showed in the movie, it emphasizes how a woman

understimated and yes, in reality it exist but as Princess Jasmine did, that maybe she don't have

a body like a man that can fight one on one,she have a voice. A voice that can persuade and can
convince a person to belived her. Also, to start her main goal in life, it is to help her people and

carry out her mother’s legacy. Obviously, she is a woman with a powerful voice that can use to

be a voice to all the voiceless with its brave heart inside her, she can. Through this, the role of

women in the society is empowered and they will not called a woman only but a powerful

woman with a powerful voice.

Aside fron the aforesaid critical approaches, iits also emphasizes the heirarchy or the social

classes in the society we're live in. If you are in the upper class, you're the ruler, the one who

make the law and lead to the people under you. Also, you are one of the bourgeaise and they

are the proletariat, You are the boss and they are the slave. In this movie, there's a scenario

that Hakim almost attack a little girl by his horse but Aladdin came and save the girl. Apparently,

Hakim didn't even worried about the girl but expelled them to get out his ways. Yes, people

like them also exist in reality that if who is on the top, is the one who have an urged to

maltreate, humiliate, understimate and discriminate people.

Furthermore, true friendship also emphasized on the movie. Its when Genie broke the rule to

save Aladdin's life no matter how it cost and Aladdin when he use his last wish to set Genie free

and have an ordinary life together with Dalia, leaves to explores the world and start a family

with her. In this, Aladdin and Genie prove that friendship is not about supporting your friends

even when you know they're wrong but loving them enough to tell them the right thing to do

before they ruin their lives, its when you're there to granted a wish that your friend biggest

dream and can make their life change for the better, and its when your ready to risk or sacrifice

your life for them to be save because you know that its worth it.
Judging the movie in 1992 and 2019, for me the 2019 is much greater because they use live-

action Aladdin that is more applicable and entertainable to adults, teens and even the children.

And i suggest that the director should show in the ending on how Princess Jasmine and Aladdin

lead the whole Agrabah. Albeit, the animation they used on how Genie displayed is great as

well as the minimal magic tricks. In conclusion, it is a literary piece or a magical and

inspirational movie that show off the reality in our society, on how to strengthen and

mainstream a woman, how social classes in our society works and realize what the true

meaning of friendship is.
