Subject: Introduction of clothing made from Jamdani in the Turkish market.

Introduction:

Fashion refers to a distinctive and often habitual trend in the style with which someone dresses,
as well as to prevailing styles in behaviour. Fashion has a big effect on the lives of people along
with society as a whole by defining style and culture. It is just one part of what defines a culture.
Each area of the world has a different style of dress, and it often portrays the customs of values
of the religion, culture or country in question.

For Bengalis one of the most distinctive clothing worn by women are the Jamdani sarees. When
one thinks of Bengal, one of the first things to pop up in our mind is its thriving saree industry.
One of the most popular textiles that boast of a rich history and heritage is the Jamdani saree.
Popularly known as Dhakai Jamdani or simply Dhakai, this art of textile weaving has its roots in
Dhaka, Bangladesh. Considered to be one of finest variety of muslin that is hand-woven from
cotton, the art flourished under the Mughal patronage.

The earliest sources in the history of Turkish clothing date back to the miniatures and wall
pictures uncovered in Central Asia. The Turkish way of living brought functional clothing styles.
It goes to show that the Turks have had a great sense of style since the very beginning. As a
result, Jamdani clothing have not been recognized yet, however if it succeeds in Istanbul,
Turkey, it will receive the recognition from the rest of the world with no doubt.

Objective:

The main purpose of this project is to conduct a research to determine whether Jamdani clothing
will be accepted by one of the leading fashion influenced countries. We want to know whether
attires made from one of the most renowned material of Bangladesh will flourish in the
international market. Introducing Jamdani clothing will act as a change agent for the Turkish
clothing industry. It will be a new product in a completely new market.

Methodology:

Our project will mostly consist of secondary research. We would like to use resources such as
the bookshop, library, the web -books, articles, standard reference sources & database,
documents, media & academic websites. These resources will help us to answer our research
queries.

Scope:

The project will help determining whether there are any chances of our product, Jamdani
clothing, to flourish in the Turkish clothing market. We will be able to answer the questions
relating to the Turkish clothing industry, and whether it will accept changes and introduction of
foreign material into their already saturated market.

Limitations:

The main limitation is going to be not being able to conduct primary research. It would have
been very helpful if we could have received firsthand information about the Turkish clothing
market. We have to assume the answers to most of our queries based on secondary research
which might be risky as the information might not be sufficient or relevant.

Request of approval:

We thereby request you approval for our research proposal. If you wish us to modify or improve
our proposal, we will submit it after incorporating the necessary changes. We would also be
grateful for your advice and help in conducting this research and completing this project.
