Primer 1216
Technical Datasheet
Characteristics: - Primer to improve the adhesion on natural stone, metallic materials and some plastics
- Ventilation time not required on smooth, non absorbent substrates
Fields of application: - Improves the adhesion of OTTO sealants on metallic materials (e. g. stainless steel, anodized
aluminium, copper, galvanised steel and chrome) and coated metals (e.g. enamel, non-corrosive
steel)
- Improves the adhesion of natural stone silicone S 70, S 80, S 117, S 130 and S 140 on marble and
other natural stones, as well as on artificial stone and concrete block
- Improves the adhesion on some plastics (e. g. PVC) and on scumbles containing solvents
Important information: The primer has been developed for OTTO sealants / adhesives to ensure an optimal adhesion in
combination with these. The interaction / compatibility to OTTO sealants / adhesives has been tested
and released by our technical department. For others, and not mentioned above OTTO product groups,
substrates or coatings we recommend preliminary tests.
Do not apply primer and cleanprimer beyond the joint edges and adhesion surfaces to avoid
contaminants / optical changings.
Pretreatment: All adherent surfaces must be clean and any contaminant such as release agents, preserving agents,
grease, oil, dust, water, old adhesives or sealants and other substances which could affect adhesion,
should be removed. Cleaning of non-porous substrates: Apply OTTO Cleaner T (airing time approx. 1
minute) using a clean, lint-free cotton cloth. Cleaning porous substrates: Clean surfaces with steel-wire
brush e. g. or a grinding disk to remove loose particles.
Application information: Apply Primer with a lint-free cotton cloth or suitable paper towel, not with a brush
Apply primer thinly and evenly, excess primer forms a film, which affects the adhesive force
Apply primer extraordinarly carefully and avoid moistening of the surface of the natural stone
beneath the joint edges to prevent stains to form.
On smooth substrates airing time is not necessary.
Observe an airing time of at least 15 minutes on structured or absorbent surfaces.
The period of time between the application of the primer and the continuation of application may be
extended to several hours, if dust accumulation is avoided.
