S9 FIRE PREVENTION/PROTECTION

Imad Company shall meet the requirements of Al-Khafji Joint Operations/Saudi Aramco

Construction Safety Manual latest edition Chapter I - 7 and all the relevant G.I. (General

Instructions) issued by the Loss Prevention Department.

S9.1 FIRE SAFETY PRACTICES/PROCEDURES

The following activities shall be observed to check the sources of fire.

S9.1.1 Before any work is started within the Al-Khafji Joint Operations/Saudi ARAMCO premises

whether cold or hot operations, the necessary permit shall be secured and all the

requirements stipulated there in is satisfied and followed.

S9.1.2 Regular clean-up of scrap materials, saw dust, wood shavings, rags, oil and grease and

other residue of construction operation shall be made.

S9.1.3 Frequent inspection of work area at least before the start of each shift of the following

items shall be done regularly:

a. Heating devices, including permanent building heating system, if this is utilized for

interior heating.

b. Electrical wiring and equipment

c. Stores of flammable liquids and materials.

d. The vicinity of welding operations, especially beneath overhead welding. If a

particular fire hazard exists in such a location, it should be either continually watched

during and immediately after welding of cutting, of should be screened with canvas or

other resistant materials.

e. Beneath and in the vicinity of hot roofing.

f. All places expose to spark and heat if refuse burning could occur.

g. Outdoor and indoor storage areas.


h. Machine rooms including offices.

i. Garbage/reuse containers and pick-up point.

j. Fire fighting equipment and other emergency appliances locations.

S9.1.4 Training of personnel on basic fire fighting procedures.

S9.1.5 Enforcement of “NO SMOKING” rules and regulations including discipline.

S9.1.6 Proper maintenance of firefighting equipment including alarm system.

S9.1.7 Organize fire brigade team

S9.2 EMERGENCY PROCEDURES IN CASE OF FIRE

S9.2.1 On being informed of emergency upon hearing the “STOP WORK ALARM”, all supervisors shall

ensure that:

a. All work is stopped at once.

b. All equipment is shut-off.

c. All men are evacuated to a predetermined assembly point.

d. A roll call is taken and every man accounted for.

e. No one is permitted to return to work until notification is received from operations or

other authorized personnel, that it is safe to do so.

f. When fire becomes serious, seek assistance from Saudi ARAMCO Fire Department.

S9.3 IMAD COMPANY OFFICES/HOUSES/FACILITIES

S9.3.1 The person detecting the fire shall:

a. Immediately turn on the fire alarm system continuously until all the building

occupants are aware of it.

b. Grab all the fire extinguisher in the area and direct it upon the fire, be sure you are

using the right type of extinguisher.

S9.3.2 All employees upon hearing the alarm:

a. Keep your head down, avoid panic and confusion.

b. Stop working and immediately shut-off equipment including office machines.

c. Walk fast to the fire exit, but do not shout, push or cause disorder.
d. When fire brigade team arrives, all without specific duties must clear the area so that

emergency force can function effectively.

e. Keep a safe distance from a building. Do not enter the premises until the “Return to

Work Order” is given by the Fire Marshall.

S9.4 FIRE BRIGADE MEMBERS

A. Stop working and immediately unplug all equipment in your area.

B. Check the location of fire.

C. If available, wear proper gear for body protection and proceed to the fire scene without

delay. Get in touch with the brigade leader for instruction.

D. Put out the fire using the right type of fire extinguisher.

E. Check that all the occupants of building or premises are out except those actually engaged

in the operations.

F. Appraise the situation if fire cannot be controlled or is endangering the neighborhood, Dial

Number 110 of Saudi ARAMCO assistance.

G. Help in restoring displaced items after the emergency.

H. Perform other assigned duties and responsibilities immediately.

I. Submit investigation report to all concerned.
