1. Explain degree of freedom. Distinguish between the statically
determinate structures and statically indeterminate structures
with examples. What do you mean by internal and external
indeterminacy ?
2. A continuous uniform beam ABC fixed at A and C and simply
supported at B consists of spans AB and BC of length 4 m and
6 m. The span AB carries a uniformly distributed load of 20 kN/m
while the span BC carries a uniformly distributed load of 12 kN/m.
Find the moments and reactions at supports. Draw also B.M
and S.F diagram for the beam.
3. A beam AB of span 5 m fixed at both ends carries a uniformly
distributed load of 18 kN/m over the whole span. The right end
support B sinks by 15 mm. Determine the fixed end moments
and reactions at supports. Draw also S.F and B.M diagram.
Take E = 200 kN/mm2 and I = 7.5 × 107 mm4.
