1.The higher the extrinsic motivation, the lower the intrinsic motivation and vice versa.
Do you agree? Explain your answer.
I agree. I believe if you are more driven by extrinsic stuff which tends to get us all
stressed out, you are less psychologically stable. Even if you think you’re going to
succeed and you are succeeding in pursuing the extrinsic motivation, you are more
likely to decrease the intrinsic motivation around you such as not having time with your
family and not being happy and contented in simple things happening on your life. The
people who are more focus on his/her deeper meaningful relationship, personal growth
and simple community contribution or intrinsic reward leads to joy, enthusiasm,
contentment and wonderful things. Extrinsic motivators can produce extrinsic motivation
due to the fact that they generate desire for the consequence of the activity. They do not
produce desire to engage in the activity for its own sake which preventing individuals to
focus on intrinsic motivation such as to learn, develop and grow. Whereas intrinsic
motivation denotes the performance of an action out of interest or enjoyment, extrinsic
motivation arises from an externally or socially created reason to perform such action.
So, I think it’s a very essential that we strike a balance between having intrinsic and
extrinsic motivation because while it is important to have external motivation from other
people around us, it is also important to have our own motivation.
2.Give one teaching application for each motivation theory?
Teachers are encouraged to recognize most improved students especially the averaged
and low students. Although the big challenge for that is it’s hard to keep track all
student’s grades and progress because of the class size. But it is not impossible for
teacher to keep in mind those students who keep on failing the exam and quizzes and
who are not participating well in a discussion. Although teacher cannot memorize all of
their scores, he/she knows those students who are left behind than other student. Now,
this is the perfect chance for the teacher to actually recognize these most of his/her
students. Once teachers noticed that there is a change behavior with the students and
once he or she has improved in terms of speaking up or participating in class, just
simply recognize that they have noticed that he or she is improving. Also if the teacher
noticed that one student got a higher score compared to his or other exams, take time
to recognize him/her. Teacher are more oriented and focused on these students
because they are more likely demotivated.
3. Give the importance of a conducive learning to learners.
A conducive learning, such as a comfortable classroom set-up, the proper use of
instructional materials and interesting classroom events, can further inspire learners to
learn. This will involve them in learning more efficiently as they will be able to pay more
attention during the teaching and learning process, concentrate better and participate
more effectively. In addition, conducive learning environment will allow teachers to
better handle, inspire and engage their charges that will result in a friendly, fascinating
and meaningful learning process in which learners anticipate attending lessons while
teachers anticipate passionately deliberating the lessons.
One of the antecedents of learner behavior is the learning environment. Therefore, an
unfavorable learning environment will lead to inattentive behavior, low learning
motivation and lack of learning interest and will definitely hinders student growth and
ability.
